Americolor Super black... I can't say that enough! If you look at my pictures on my Over the Hill cake I started out with white icing and got a perfect black. It leaves no bitter aftertaste.

Americolor super black! I agree! Just tried it for the first time directly onto white icing and it worked great! No bitter taste like the Wilton, either. I love Americolor red, too, for the same reason.

I've used wilton's and started with a white buttercream and got it pretty darn black..........just keep adding........and when it's a fairly dark greyish purple, I stop and let it sit for 20 min. and come back and it's usually REALLY black like I need it and if not I add a little more and wait another 10-20 and it always works. Here is a cake I did with tons of black icing.........I would say it's pretty black!
