Depends how you want to bake... the CMD is obviously if you want to start from mixes (and many people here swear by it, but I've never used it) ... if you want to bake from scratch, there is no better book to have on your shelf than the Cake Bible (I LOVE mine!)

I have both books. I love, love, love my CMD the strawberry 3 layer is wonderful (just finishes having a peice) I put fresh strawberry cream cheese frosting on it, YUMMY!!
Last week I made the butter cake from the Cake Bible, it was also very good. It just depends who you are making it for, my husband only likes cakes made with mix, while I have friends who really love scratch cakes.
Both are great books, and they are both easy to use.
