ok, I'm about to use the bear pan for the first time!!! When I used Dora I sprayed and floured and it released with no problem......will this work for the bear pan too do you think?

I don't know why this pan makes me soooo nervous!! I think maybe because of the poor teddy post!!!!

Does it work better to leave the core in or not?

and last but DEFINITELY NOT least.........I plan on using carrot cake(my kids looooove carrot cake) do you think that will work?? The cake does have all the goodies in it raisins, pineapple, coconut and nuts....and I planned on repacing the oio with appesauce.................is this a bad idea for this pan???

As long as you grease the pan and flour it and also the core you should be fine. I am not sure about the carrot cake but I don't see why it would not work!

Twinsline: I'm so sorry to scare you with my post icon_lol.gif It worked so much better for me without the core in. I guess everyone has different experiences, but since I've tried it both ways I would definitely recommend greasing the pan real good & bake it without the core, but add a little more time on it to make sure its done.

oh no I was already afraid of the bear pan icon_lol.gif hahaha

you mean bake it without the core in at all??? Or you mean dont fill it and leave it inside the bear?

I'm confused icon_sad.gif

Bake it without the core at all. I sprayed both sides of the pan, put the clips on, turned him upside down & filled him 3/4 of the way without the core. I used a doctored DH mix with an extra egg & baked it for about 1 hour. It came out really good.

Just wanted to add also, that this is only from my personal experience...many people have used the core & have been successful. I am not one of those people icon_lol.gif When I was reading through alot of the older posts about this pan a common complaint was the head falling off when taking the core out.
My disaster might have been caused by my cake being too moist maybe, but the cake baked without the core just came out so much better.

Thank you so much for your advice with the pan......

I dont mean to sound like such an idiot......but you didn't put the core in atall ...right?

I think I will try it that way because my kids are ahuge part of this cake tonight....and I can't have the head falling off right before they goto bed icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_surprised.gif

The first time, I baked with the core in & filled the pan & the core with batter. This did not work for me at all.

The second time I did not use the core at all...baked it without it. I'm telling you go back to the thread I think its on page 4 or 5...there is a picture of the second Teddy cake I used without the core. It came out perfect!! It baked all the way through & was very sturdy(meaning his head was well attached & I could move him around without breaking him.)

The only thing is that my husband said the Teddy cake was drier than my normal cakes, BUT not dry. If that makes sense. My cakes are usually very dense and brownie-like & he said this was more a cake consistency.

I hope this helps you, but like I said this is just my personal experience. When I saw your post I felt I had to share my advice. I also don't know about the carrot cake because I haven't tried that, but the yellow cake worked perfect for me.

If you need any more help I will be back on in about 5-7 minutes(nasty cigarette habit thumbsdown.gif )

oh thank you sooo much!! I appreciate ALL of your advice....I read through your post and saw the two cakes!!! I thought maybe I shouldn't try the carrot cake ....except the only other cake mix I have is CHOCOLATE!!!!!!!!!! hahhaaha I'm afraid if my chocolate bear decapitated my children would never forgive me!!!

Maybe I will just do the carrot cake without the extras in it and no core.....play it safe..............rather have happy children with a fully headed bear then a yummy yummy carrot cake!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Good Luck, hun & please keep us posted in how it turns out!!
Just make sure you let it cool really good before you take it out of the pan. I let it cool really good, lifted the top off and let the steam out, put it back on then turned it over took the other side off, let the steam out & let it sit until it was cooled. Then I stood him up on a cake round & made sure it was cool completely before I decorated him.

Okay, now I'll shut up & let you bake icon_lol.gif

I may have a poor teddy post in about an hour or so !!!!!! keeps your eyes out for one!!! I will need a shoulder to cry on!

oh wait...one more question.........you say cooled really good before releasing the pans....do you know about how long?

again thank you thank you thank you!!!

Twinsline7: I think I let it sit in the pan for about 20-25 minutes until I took off the top. Then after I flipped it over & let the steam off the back, I let it sit without the back on probably for a good 30 min if not more after that before I completely took him out of the pan. I know it says to stand the pan up while cooling it, but I let him lay down because I was afraid of him breaking. Now, I'm sure you might not have to wait that long, but I was extra paranoid.

I really hope this works out for you...I would feel responsible if it didn't. Sometimes its so weird on here, what works for someone may not work for another. But I am sending good thoughts your way...I will be up for awhile so I will keep an eye out for any updates. I kind of feel like I am right there with you baking. icon_biggrin.gif

Operation twinsline bear is in the oven!!!!! I chose not to go with the core just to be safe.....!!! I have just one concern though.........I had to move the rack way low to put him in....should I lower the temp so his head doesnt burn!!! icon_lol.gif

thanks for being right here with me on it thumbs_up.gif

Twinsline: I had to do the same thing and move him all the way to the bottom. I put him on a baking sheet. My oven at home is not very big & the feet almost touched the top with his head low, but he came out really nice. The only problem I had was trying to manuever him out of the oven without him tipping over. But my oven is built into the wall and not very high.

I will be on here off and on so I'll be checking on your Teddy.

Oh, and also I baked him at 325..thats what I bake all my cakes at.

oh I forgot......you coulda warned me about the clips !!! icon_confused.gificon_razz.gificon_lol.gif

I've never used this pan so the clips were extremely tight!!! I kept thinking ....see what I started I can't just get away with a nice round carrot cake for my kids!!!!!

Oh NO...I forgot about the clips icon_surprised.gif I hate those things. I kept trying to put them on and they kept flinging across the room icon_lol.gif I had a little leakage from the head, but it didn't affect the cake...the baking sheet caught it so it didn't fall in the oven.

I know, I always end up saying I'm just going to make a simple cake, but I can't resist the look on the kid's faces when I do something extra special.

HAHHAHA....I left out that they flung across the room because I was embarrassed!!! I'm sooo glad it isn't just me!!!

Hey I just peeked on our little friend....and he is not exploding or overflowing from the bottom(top)...do i need to worry that he is going to be born a little shorter than other bears??

hey also....I posted about cream cheese frosting...have you ever used the recipe on here before? Do you know if I will be able to star tip it?

I just want to thank you again for ALLLLLLLL your help!!!

My daughter kept asking me what was wrong with me...they kept flying across the room and she could hear me laughing around the corner icon_lol.gif

I'm not sure why the bear would be shorter, but mine came out okay. I put the batter in 3/4 of the way and it rose perfect. It almost came to the top, but never flowed over. Even if he did come out shorter, the kids will love him anyway.

I'm not sure about the cream cheese frosting...I've never made it. Is it the crusting cream cheese frosting? If so, I would think it would be okay.

Hope you two don't mind me butting in here. I love the crusting cream cheese icing from here. It will pipe ok for you. I did a cake awhile back with it and smoothed it with a viva and piped a shell boarder with no problems (well none that I can blame on the icing)

Hope your teddy turns out ok. If not have you seen the new Swiss colony? They have some carrot cake truffles shaped like a carrot and dipped in orange colored candy melts. I might have to make some of those just for fun.

It is a magazine that sells truffles and petit fours. They always look so yummy!

oh yeah that cream cheese icing takes color well too.

A wonderful thing I learned from this site---The metal paper clips, the black ones with the "ears" you fold down--work great on those pans and on bake even strips. I don't use those clips or the pins anymore.
I forget who taught me that, someone from here. You learn so much every day here it is hard to keep it all straight.

Newtodecorating: Thanks...I kind of thought it was a magazine, but I wasn't sure. I'll have to try the paperclips if I ever decide to do the bear again..thanks for the tip.

Twinsline: Just cheking in because I have to go to bed...I usually take the laptop up, but the charger broke icon_cry.gif I will be on here for a few more minutes & I will check first thing in the morning. Hopefully everything is going okay thumbs_up.gif

twinsline bear update!!!!

WHOOO he released from the pan!!!! I went with you ge978 on cooling him laying down in his released pan........We haven't reached the standing straight up on his own path yet....but he seems pretty sturdy!!!

He was born at approx 8 1/4 inches......the pan is about 9 so he wasn't as short as I thought he would be icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif But because he was a bit shorter I laid him down in the released pan...( I didn't want him to deform during the birthing process icon_wink.gif )

newtodecorating you and all are more than welcome to come in!!! do you use the crusting cream cheese recipe from here? If not can you share it?

I'm gonna be up ALL night with my little buddy!!

By the way great idea about the carrot truffles.....but my fingers are still crossed that he will make and not be bear balls!!!
