I swear I never saw it coming. I was happily exploring ruffles and swags while my one year old slept and the other children were busy.
My son (5 years old) snuck into the kitchen and when I took my eye off the cake for just a second, he reached up and gave the turn table a quick spin.
The cake practically flew off it and landed upside down on the tile floor.
It happened so fast that I just stood there, mouth hanging open, not understanding it for like 30 seconds. icon_surprised.gif

Then I grabbed my little manic and dragged him to his father. My exact words were, " Spank this child, cause if I start I may not ever stop!"

By the time I walked back into the kitchen I was over it. It was only a practice cake and I was just about done with it before "lift off "anyway.

Dh husband said the child knew he was in trouble cause he brought the swat stick to his dad and didn't even argue.

I think a bigger punishment was that there was no cake for dessert that night....he loves mommy's cakes.

I hope he learned his lesson. That cake stand has fascinated him ever since I bought it last month.

Note to self....
Keep the child gate up even if the baby is in his bed.

That i so funny now that it is over and not a real cake to be picked up or delivered. I probably would have beat my daughter. But I am just sitting here laughing because I can imagine it right now.

Kids...what would we do without them? Sometimes we'd like to try! Mine are grown and I still feel that way sometimes!

I'm sure it wasn't at all funny to you, but I had to chuckle. Glad it wasn't a cake that had to be ready to deliver in an hour or so! Bet the other kids gave it to him too, since everyone lost out on dessert!

I just look at incidents like this as, "making memories".

Once when my mom was on the telephone (back in the days when the cord only reached so far), I, along with my 2 brothers, sprayed chocolate syrup on the ceiling in the dining room!! We still talk about "the chocolate stain" and laugh. Even though we all got the worst whipping of our lives the day it happened.

Hmm, might try having a cupcake flinging day and let the little critter get it out of his system. You know a day that he and sibs can actually launch all the cupcakes/mini cakes off the turn table. We had a daughter that had a knack for doing such things and I finally got to the point of having to figure out a different way of curbing her curiosity or end up in jail for child abuse! We devised different ways that she could satisfy her curiosity and not get in trouble and stay out of my things and live - and for me to keep my sanity too!
We can laugh about it now and we sure do, but it wasn't funny at the time. I feel for you and your lil guy, though I must admit that I had to stop laughing first.

if it makes you feel better, i had a cake on the table (granted it was already cut) and i looked at it and thought "which one of my little munchkins poked a big hole in it) on closer examination, one of my five year olds had stuck a knife through it, so i guess all 5 year old boys are a little crazy

Ohhhh, that's both funny and terrible at the same time. Envisioning it from an observational standpoint, that's pretty funny but from the decorator's POV, ouch!! Cake on the floor...never a good thing. LOL

I always put a small square of rubber drawer liner on top of my turntable because I have nearly slung cakes off myself!! icon_biggrin.gif

My heart sank when I read your post. At least until I read it was a practice cake! I bet your son never goes near the cake stand ever again!

Now that it's over you can laugh! I was just picturing my youngest daughter doing the same thing. They know that when mom is in the kitchen, we are not! It only took one time with a finger hole in the side of a cake that they quickly learned we touch nothing that resembles a cake or cake supplies!

Thanks for the chuckle! Good thing it was a practice cake. My son snuck up on me when I decorating a cake for a customer once with a "boo!" and poke in the side - luckily I didn't destroy the cake when I jumped out of my skin! I snapped so quick I don't think he'll ever do that again!

You gotta love 'em!

Oh my heavens, I am literally laughing my butt off!!! Luckily my girls have a 'tell' in that when they see something they like they go "ooooooohhhhhhhhhh, cake!!!", it's so cute and gives them away every time!

I have also lost cakes to my quick-fingered trio, and they work together to boot! And ya gotta laugh or else yer gonna cry! Just wait until they figure out that the "oooohhhhh" is a dead giveaway and they stop doing that, then I'm just screwed! icon_lol.gif

LOL this is so darn funny. I am sitting here pmsl at this. I can just imagine the look on his face and on your face for that matter.

I must say I do hope that hope you punished that husband of yours and not the child. He failed to keep and eye on him when you were busy. LOL... I vote to punish the father... All those in favor say aye!!

LOL... I am still imagining this flying cake. LOL... ok moral of the story. Don't blink while making cakes. LOL....

AYE!!!! Punish the father too!!!

Gee guys my little one is only 3 you aren't giving me much hope for the future!

I must say I know where you are coming from. Why can't we have that much energy? I just can't keep up with mine. I am afraid to blink. Who knows what he could be doing? Just invest in a big bottle of eye drops-we'll be fine.

Can't punish the father. He works night shift and barely had his eyes open when it happened.

Now that I think of it my son looked just as confused as I did when it happened. Must of shocked him too. icon_lol.gif

I usually have one of those non-slip mats under the cake board but like I said it was practice so I just skipped it. Never again.

Thanks for all the positive feedback. It is so much better to laugh than to cry over spilled cake as it were. icon_wink.gif

Man, it was an orange cake with chocolate buttercream too...my mouth was watering while I was piping away. Sigh.

Do you all know that episode of friends where Rachal and Chandler(? forgot who it was) drop that pie in the hall way of the apartments? They still ate it off the floor! My children
do it--why can't we? LOL
