I just made the candy clay recipe posted here at CC. I turned it out onto wax paper to let it air dry. Just went to check on it and it's really wet looking and it actually is sort of leaking?!? lol I know that sounds weird, but I don't know how else to describe it...lol. It's like this: there's the mass of candy clay and all around the edges is this liquid coming out of it...and it's wet on the surface too. What in the world did I do wrong??? And how can I possibly fix it?? HELP!
Only thing i can think of is the oil or corn syrup is sperating from the "mass". Try kneading it.
I think you're right...the corn syrup was separating from the mass of candy melts, have no idea why. I tried to move it to another sheet of wax paper, thinking that might leave a lot of the liquid behind and it might dry better...nope, no luck. I walked away from it and about 30 minutes later I checked and it was beginning to dry, but all around the edges there was a whitish film like substance??? It looked like dried milk solids, sort of. I don't know what I did wrong, but would really like to figure it out so I don't do it again!! lol Anyone else have any ideas on what could've happened here?? lol
I don't know what causes it, but it isn't a problem. before it gets too firm, just knead it back together. The whitish color is from the fat solids. If it is really goopy, fold it inside parchment a few times till it starts coming together. It doesn't take too long, and the clay is fine.
Yeah, i tried kneading it. All i can think of why is that you either heated the candy melts way to fast and to hot or not enough. Then when you let it cool it'd be to hot and the two would seperate, or the two weren't able to combine because it wasn't hot enough. If you let it cool to touch and then knead it until everything comes together, it should be perfect to use.
