Ok, this is probably one of those "eye roll" inducing questions but hey....everyone should roll their eyes at LEAST once a day to exercise them!
Ok, so when you make a wedding cake (or quince cake ROFL) and you use round cakes and use 2 layers per round......when you go to cut and serve the cake do you seperate those two layers and serve 1 layer at a time? It seems weird because if you have a sheet cake or two with a round tiered cake, they are usually only 1 layer. If you serve some people 2 x 2 inch pieces that are 2 layers high... that's a bit MUCH for cake. But a 1x1 piece looks tiny even double high.
I guess I'm rambling... I swear I get more confused every day! I just don't recall ever being served 2 layers of cake at a wedding before......just 1 layer. If you seperate the layers, don't they look funny when served?
i always serve pieces that are 4 inches high. thats why a 1.5x2x4 inch piece is used for the party servings. it really is a lot of cake when its that high. theres a cool visual in the gallery with wooden/painted "cake" pieces to illustrate how much it really is, in all three sizes. (2x2x4, 1x2x4, 1.5x2x)
and don't worry, no eye rolling!
here it is! its nice to have a visual for those servings. its hard for me to imagine in my head what its actually looks like.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!
So then when you have sheet cakes beyond the rounds....do you just make them 4 inches high too?? Or do you cut them in larger squares per slice to make up for the difference?
never done a sheet cake, but heres the wilton serving guide. it gives a pic of sheet cake servings.
