Getting ready to try my first FBCT. Going to follow SquirrelyCakes recipe and instructions but have one question first.

I'm going to do the outline in black before filling in the other colors and the color of the top of my cake is going to be light green.

I'm okay until the part where she says "When all colours are done and set a bit, smooth out with a spatula and apply your BACKING and OUTLINING colour." I know I'm supposed to cover the whole transfer with light green icing which would be my backing color, but what does she mean by "outlining colour"? Am I supposed to go over the black again somewhere?

Don't want to do it wrong.

I believe the backing color is the same color as what the cake is frosted in, covering the whole design including the outline. Am still wanting to try this (on a small picture) so let me know how you make out. What did you use for the outline (black) icing?

I haven't done it yet, but planning to use SquirrelyCakes' recipe and just use black food coloring to get my outline color.

Wish me luck! I'm going to try making the transfer today and then freeze it until next week when I will put it on my St. Patrick's Day cake. (Hopefully!)

I'll post photos when it's done.

I did a FBCT last week and froze it for a cake this week. It was my first transfer and wanted to make sure it came out okay. After I was done with the transfer and was suppose to put the background colour on the back, I didn't extend the background colour past my black outline because I didn't want that extra icing there. It came out great.
