When you make a stacked cake using the basic round pans and you only want two cakes, what size pans do you use? I don't need a tremendously large cake, it's for my parent's anniversary party and there will be somewhere around 25 people.

What size looks best when stacking cakes? Do you skip the one in between? In other words, would you use an 8" on top of a 10" or would it look better to use like an 8" on top of a 12" or a 6" on top of a 10"? Does that make sense?

Thanks!

I think a 10 inch and a 8 would be good.Also a 8 and a 6 if you want a smaller cake!!

I personally like the look of a 6" stacked on top of a 10" cake. I think its all about personal preference & how much space you like between your tiers. To answer your other question, when I do stacked cakes I usually do 2 layers of each cake...I like the look & height that way. You might have too much cake(if there is such a thing icon_lol.gif ) with the 10 & 6 so KiddieKake's suggestion of the 8 & 6 might be the way to go.

Hope this helps you.

ge978, I didn't think there was such a thing as too much cake! thumbs_up.gif

Thanks, I was wondering if there was a rule or if it was just personal preference!

Think about what you want for decorations and that sometimes helps. I'm doing two layers for a baby shower cake right now, and I did a 12" and an 8" because I needed room to line up a row of fondant ducks. I needed that extra 2 inches around the 8".
