I need a very soft, buttery, yummy, to die for butter cookie recipe. I will be making a batch of cut out iced cookies for an event at my job on Monday. Does anyone have a fantastic butter cookie recipe that I can ice with cookie icing and taste out of this world?

This recipe rocks. People can't get enough of them.

Danish Butter Cookies (I'm using American measures)

2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 pinch salt
2 cups butter
1 teaspoon cream of tarter
5 cups flour
2 eggs
1 teaspoon baking powder

Cream sugar, butter and eggs. Beat well, add vanilla. Sift and add dry ingredients.

Shape in to small balls (rounded 1/2 teaspoonfuls). place on ungreased cookie sheet. Press down with fork dipped in water.

Bake 350 degrees (F) 7-8 minutes.

My variations:

Before rolling in ball, mix in raspberry seedless jam. Leave as streaks in batter.

Instead of using fork, press down with thumb and fill will raspberry seedless jam.

These work well with a cookie press.

Press with fork and sprinkle with decorator's sugar.

If by butter cookies, you mean shortbread cookies, I have an awesome whipped shortbread recipe that will melt in your mouth! If you want it, PM me.
