I'm making this cake for my son's 3rd birthday and was wondering ,for those of you that have done it before or any one who can give me any suggestions. Have you done it with something else than pound cake? and how did you tied the pans together. Also if make the train and want to add the carts behind it like some I've seen in the galleries to look like a real train , were they put it on a long base with tracks and everything on it. Do you decorate the train and carts and then put on the base(if this is the case How? ) or decorate directly on the base. Do i have to do everything on the cake table? I would be afraid to move it. Please can some one walk me thru I have no idea.Sorry about sounding so inexperieced, but I am . thanks Caixa.

I have done that train with DH chocolate cake mix and have tied the pan together with coooking twine, the same as you would tie a roast up with. I have also decorated it on a board with several other cakes, just make sure the board is like plywood and that you cover it good with foil and and trim the bottom of the train flat and put some frosting under the train to make it stick. As long as you keep it on a flat surface it should transfer well.

I've made the train with Betty Crocker yellow, chocolate and marble and it works fine, I don't like pound cake much so I've never used it.
I would decorate right on the board or make little boards to put each car on. The train isn't terribly tippy so moving it isn't hard.
