I'm going to be showing cakes in my first bridal show. I am making two dummie wedding cakes and several favor cookies. Does anyone have any more suggestions or ideas for making this a success.

Yes, give samples. The brides will all want to know if your cakes are good. Maybe get those small plastic souffle cups with lids, and cut a tiny sample of cake into them the night before and seal it with the lid. I reccommend two flavors....I did 4 and it was too much! However, they remembered how good the cakes were, and my phone was ringing off the hook afterward!!

SAMPLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We packaged ours in 2 oz. plastic souffle cups/portion cups with lids with a sticker on them with our name/website. Everyone loved this. They could take them with them and eat them later. People get "caked out" at these things. And they all start running together after awhile. They don't remember who made what cake. Also, it's a way to be the last cake vendor in their heads because they see our sample when they get home.

Be prepared with the exact number of servings and the exact cost of your display cakes. People will ask you you prices, but if they like your displays, they might ask you exactly how much that would cost and exactly how many servings. We got asked that numerous times.

Read ellepal's post about her bridal show experience too. And there's another post from someone else about their experience. It's a lot of work, but well worth it. I'm not sure where you are, but if there's a decent amount of competition in your area, this is one of the best ways to get your name out there.

Also, have some form of printed info, but make it stand out. We printed ours on a shiny lavender paper so it wouldn't be "normal" and it would stand out in the stacks of papers they are collecting at the show.

Good luck!
Suz

The only sample we offered was vanilla cake and vanilla BC. It worked well because it's still the most popular (for us anyway). If you offer more flavors, be prepared because a lot of people will want to try them all so you need enough of each flavor.
