I am doing a wedding cake that is covered in RED fondant. Does anyone have any suggestion on how to get red? Can you buy it red, or do I have to mix forever? Thanks, Keli

Satin Ice comes in red, you can order it online at several sites.

Can anyone tell me how many lbs I would need it is for a 6" 8" and 10" cake. The red satin ice is 10$ for 2 lbs, so I am trying to figure out a cost to tell the bride. I would normally make MMf, but I really don't want to try RED!

Has anyone had the red or any other color Satin Ice? Does it still taste good? I have not tried Satin Ice, but I have heard that it is good. Keli

I am making a wedding cake in April that calls for red fondant roses. I've already started coloring my fondant since it is time consuming and I need about 200 roses. I have to tell you that maybe you'll have luck purchasing the red fondant already colored in that it won't taste disgusting as anything with too much red coloring usually does. I had to use sooooo much red to get my fondant red. I tasted a little bit and it is overpoweringly red tasting. ICK! At least the bride said no one will be eating these roses!!

I'm wondering if it would be easier to buy chocolate fondant and start with brown to avoid using so much red color. My point being it would already have some depth...

What do you think?

they make wilton fondant in red.....they have all the primary and pastels..........but I'm sure it tastes horrible like their white fondant LOL Maybe you could do a tester and try out some MMF and using the americolor colors.......I hear they're great and that you don't need too much to get a really RED red........and it's easier to mix the color right into the melted marshmallows..........and then add the powdered sugar and then once it's all kneaded....then you've basically got a red base and then if more is needed it's not so much work to get it super red

this wilton link gives suggested amounts of fondant for cake sizes. Just make sure you have a little extra, just in case!

I use satin Ice quite a bit and everybody really likes it. I actually just bought a 2# tub of red for V'tine Day, but did not get to use it. I would def. buy it. It would save you a lot of trouble, just reflect the cost in your price.

i used americolor to color the red bow in my pictures. it's mmf. now i didn't have to make nearly as much as you're going to have to. i would go with the idea of adding your color to the melted marshmallows., then if you need it darker, add more color before you mix in all the powdered sugar
