Just curious has to how everyone rates their various cookbooks or cake decorating books. Do you base your decision on who the author of the book is or do you go by what others have said about the book?

I'm naughty when i choose out books. I stand in the aisles and read random pages and recipes. The book store people hate when i do this!! Apparently I'm not supposed to be doing this for some reason. It avoids the hassle of returning them.

Honestly, if I haven't had a book recommended to me I usually choose it by the pictures! I don't even read the recipes. Isn't that aweful?

I look thru it in the store or check it out on amazon.com. It needs to have lots of pictures and either new recipes or techniques that I want to try. (I hate plain recipe books without pictures.) Amazon also has reviews so I get an idea of what others think of it.

Really? I shop at B&N, so usually I'll grab a bunch, go sit down, and look through them with a cup of coffee.

lemoncurd, that's what I'm saying. I do the same thing! Go to Borders, Go to B&N, read and sip! It has to have fun or different designs either within my skill level or just beyond my comfort zone. Then if a little wee voice starts chanting "buy me"...it's going home! icon_cool.gifbirthday.gif

I will usually get online and check to See if my library has it available. If it's not available I check to see if the city next door has it and do interlibrary loans. Then I request the book and check it out at home. If there's only one or two things that catch my eye I scan and save to a flash drive. If I really really really really really and I mean really really really gotta have it. Then I buy it.

Princess
P.S. There was one book I scanned the entire thing and saved to a flash drive.

Well I try to keep costs down, so I shop at clearence book stores. So thats why they don't like it when I stand there and read the recipes.

Finally see someone from my neck of the woods--Peachshortcake. For those of you that don't know Maple Ridge and Abbotsford are quite close together 30-35 min drive. Anyway Peachtree don't know of many cake decorating stores around here but found a new one that just opened up in Langley(10 min. ferry ride for Peachshortcake and a 20 min. drive for me). Here is the link to their store. They don't have the full catalogue of supplies on there but from some of the pics it looks like a candy store for cake enthusiasts

Haven't had the time to check it out yet but will be for sure.
Address is 103-20258 Fraser Hwy Langley
