I usually make fondant in my KA. Today, I wanted to make little pieces ahead of time for a cake later on next week. So I needed a little bit of fondant. I melted a little bit of marshies in a bowl with a few drops of water and a lil vanilla... then i just added enough powdered sugar that it looked like it needed... Anyway, i mixed it with a spoon then went in and mixed it/kneaded it by hand... IT WAS SO MUCH EASIER, cleaner and my fondant felt smoother and more pliable. I thought it was interesting enough to share with you guys.

I know this is not a first time discovery... but I used to be aftraid to do it by hand...so I figure I'd share my story if anyone else was afraid...

Good for you. I haven't had the guts to do that yet. Maybe I'll give it a shot, 'cos sometimes I don't need a boatload of stuff. Watch this space!

I have never made my MMF in my Bosch. I think I'm scared to! LOL! I do however want to try it in my Bosch.

I just read a post the other day with a recipe for small MMF batches like you were talking about and I was wondering if I should still use my KA or if I should do it by hand. So, thanks for answering my question. Did you color it after you melted the marshmallows and before you added the sugar?

I prefer to mix my MMF by hand. I tried making MMF in my KA and it was a mess!! I went back to mixing and kneading by hand. For me it's a lot easier and i think my MMF is easier to work with in the end.

Wow, and I was afraid to post this - I thought I'd be wasting everyone's time with a nonsense topic!

I added my coloring into the melted marshmallows and blended before I added powdered sugar. I will never knead it in again. My color was more even and seemed brighter!

I don't think I will ever use my KA again for fondant - even big batches! No matter how slow I mix my kitchen is usually filled with a snowstorm of sugar!!! This way, I can melt little batches at a time, work in the seperate colors per batch and just stick all my little microwave bowls in the washer asap. Maybe it's just me but cleaning my KA seems like a big deal everytime. The whole thing always needs to be wiped down from all the sugar floating in the air!

Try it by hand if you haven't... I think you will like it. PLUS you can get a better feel of what consistency you need and are looking for! Usually mine is way too stiff...well, this was not a problem today!!!

Since my house doesn't have a mixer I always make mine by hand. I@always thought you with KA's were so privleged to be able to make your fondant in them. I guess not.... lol.

I have always made my by hand. I have KA but I make small batches so it was just easier. I thought I might try my KA but now I think I will stick with the hands. It isn't that hard to much easier then cleaning my KA.I make my mmf for accents mostly so I only need small batches.

I always mix by hand too. I think I finally have the consistancy down now and I know the feeling I am going for .

Whenever I have to mix anything in my KA requiring powdered sugar, I always place a kitchen towel over the top of mixer including the bowl. I just don't want to breath in all that sugar. Helps to eliminate some of the mess too.

Okay, now I'll finally try the MMF. Been aftraid to try with a big batch but the little batches don't sound so forbidding.
Thanx!
