I'll be doing a birthday cake for a little girl whose birthday is close to Easter. Her mother wants a cake with possibly chicks and bunnies; pastel colors. Anyone have any inspiration pics to share or have any ideas how to make this special? Needs to feed 30-35 so no more than an 11 x 15 sheet cake or maybe a small 2-tiered cake.

Would love inspiration pics if anyone has any to share.

Thanks!

I don't have a picture of a cae like you need, but what if you figure pipe chicks and bunnies, or you could do color flow peices in pastel colors. I use color pages and you should be able to find Easter ones now. Good luck

Thanks guys! I'm really drawn to the hatching chicks figures Sylvie. Thanks for the link! I guess in my mind I'm thinking a 2-tiered whimsical cake covered in pastel colors with bunnies and chicks sculpted in fondant.

But I'm open to suggestions in any other direction.

You guys are so helpful.

ha ha. That's just what I was going to suggest. Actually, I was thinking that you could use cookie cutters to make silhouettes of bunnies and chicks to put on the sides of the cake, maybe even on top, depending on whether you feel like sculpting or not. Chicks are way easy to sculpt and bunnies wouldn't be that hard. I think I have a bookmark on one of the computers that has instructions for chicks. Let me know if you want me to look for it.

One thing about it; should be easy to find cookie cutters in the shapes of bunnies and chicks right now, huh! Yep, might depend on if I'm feeling like sculpting Karen. If you can find the instructions on the chicks without too much trouble, I'd like to see it. Thanks!

You shouldn't have any trouble at all finding cookie cutters now. I see them everywhere.

Here's the link for the chick:

And if you look below, you can see they have instructions for bunnies...

I'm sure you could change them a little if you want. (That's just me, saying that I'm not a fan of the eyes. icon_wink.gif)

I'm not fond of those eyes either Karen. LOL But at least it gives me an idea how to sculpt the body. That's a thought, smashcakes. I'm sure the kid would like the peeps too.

There is an ideal cake in this season's Cake & Sugarcraft Magazine.

Sorry I don't have a scanner. The cake and board are yellow and green leaves edge the bottom of the cake and the board. There are blossoms cut out, a large violet and a pink on top of it and put around the cake sides randomly.

On the top there is a mother and father duck who look like they are in a flap (the story is they've lost their easter eggs) and a basket with a naughty bunny peeping out, chocolate around his whiskers and broken pieces of easter egg beside the basket. Classic as a fun easter cake. Its designed by Maisie Parrish.

I went to her site but didn't see the cake, sparklycake. Nice work though!

MommyEdzards, thanks for sharing that pic. Something along those lines, yeah! This will give me some guidance.
