Sugar Paste/ Gum Paste?

At the risk of sounding silly, what is the difference? I have worked with gum paste before is sugar past different/better?

I've heard sugar paste used as another name for fondant before.

I saw a recipie for a molded sugar that used egg white and powder sugar, is that sugar paste????

sugar paste is the English term for fondant. Petal paste is often the English term for gum paste. Sugar paste and gum paste are not the same.
