Now, for some reason I thought these were the same thing.

Are they?

I believe frosting sheets are made of some sort of marshmallow concoction and wafer sheets are made of rice (so sometimes they are just called rice paper).

Frosting sheets are a sugar-based edible "paper" that is just like thin layers of frosting dried on a plastic backing. They soak into the surface of most frosting/icings becoming part of the actual cake.

Wafer paper, also called edible rice paper, is a starch-based paper. I think the most common type is potato starch based. It reminds me a lot of thick, white onion skin. It doesn't dissolve in frosting/icing. It dissolves in water.

The icing sheets make a vivid, sharp image. An image printed on wafer paper is less sharp and a little duller. It has its place, but for a featured image on a cake, I'd use the icing sheets every time.

Hi there

I do not have my own printer, so I get all my Frosting Sheets done at our local Albertsons Grocery Store in the Bakery. They charge $10 per page here. The quality is great! Just like a color copy... And yes they are thicker and very easy to handle, much more so than the rice paper type.

I just did a super simple cake with a map on it and was happy with the results of the frosting sheets. icon_smile.gif

Hope I helped! icon_smile.gif Have a blessed day

That's a great idea. I will have to call the super market by my house. Will they do anything, or just pictures they already have on file?

Anything as far as I know.
I went to AAA and got a map of the state I was doing, and then went to Kinkos and shrunk it to the size I wanted, then went to Albertsons icon_smile.gif
