I have a retail customer who loves cake balls. They're thinking of selling them in the coffee shop they have inside their book store. As they don't have a bakery case, or anything like that, they will need to be completely packaged. I'm thinking of using the little plain white Chinese take-out containers with my logo sticker on the side and ribbon or something, not sure what yet, tied to the top to give it some oomph. What I'm wondering is will I still need to put each cake ball in a little paper cup? Or will they be ok against each other? Will they stick to each other? I plan on putting them inside a bag that's heat sealed, then inside the take-out container....but not sure if I still should use the paper liner/cup things or not. Just wondering how everyone else packages/stores theirs.

That's exactly how I package them to give them to neighbors and friends at Christmas. I do not use the little paper cups, I just put them in there like you described and they don't stick.

I think that's a great way to package them!

Good luck with this!

Hi Jenn,

I don't do cake balls but I do something similar. I sell peanut butter ball candies by the tons. I have been making them for two years and I always put them in the little candy cups first, then inside a clear cellophane bag and then a box, giving them as much room as possible as not to smash them. Mine have butterscotch drizzled on top and I don't want them to get messy at all. I think you might run the risk of your cake balls pressing together, especially if the temperature of the room is warm at all. The cups might help some.

As long as the room they are in doesn't get warm enough to soften the chocolate on the outside, I think they'll be fine without the paper cups.

I would love to see a picture!

JennT - I like the idea of adding something to the box to give it some "punch". People will remember the look of the packaging, although not quite as much as the taste of what's inside. icon_wink.gif I think ribbon that coordinates with your logo sticker would look nice. I can't wait to see what you decide on. Good luck.

Thanks for the input, everyone! I think I'll give it a try without the paper liner cup things....it's just one more thing to do that will take up more time which will eat into my profits! icon_razz.gif Plus, I just found out today that they'll be sitting on top of their ice cream case, so temp shouldn't be a problem. I started thinking a ribbon might not be enough....I might use some sort of flower...we have a store here with really great prices on silk flowers of all kinds. Since my business name is SugarBelle's I'm thinking a magnolia or camellia or some other type of flower widely recognized in the South. I'll be ordering the containers later this week, so once they get in and I get some made up I'll try to remember to post a pic! Thanks again everyone! icon_smile.gificon_wink.gif
