Hello All-

I have been tasked with a small cake for an expecting first time mom. My supervisor wants a cake for his wife to show her how much he loves her and though she feels like she's unattractive, she's still beautiful as ever in his eyes.

So, here's where I am seeking help. I'm going to give some things that best describe this expecting mom and maybe you can offer your feedback in helping me put it all together or put certain pieces together on a cake.

- First Baby
- Assistant Principal
- Loves pastel colors (blue, lavender and green)
- Loves to read books before she goes to sleep
- Loves flowers

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Thanking you in advance-

here is an idea: since she likes flowers I would do flowers in pastel colors with a say like "you are growing in beauty" or simply 'your beautiful' and maybe you could do a mom reading a book to child out of fondant or FBCT. I hope that helps.

how about an open book cake with the flowers trailing down the middle and a wonderful saying on the page. You don't even need to have a book pan to do this. You can "sculpt" the book with frosting. Just place some extra frosting on the cake to make it look like pages n such. Use the comb to make the sides look like pages and maybe if you have one, air brush some brown onto the edges to make it look like a grand old book. Instead of a shell border (you're gonna have enough frosting on the top anyway) just use a size 8 round tip to make it look like the cover around the bottom edge.

I like the book idea: I don't know if you have access to edible images or not, but I thought maybe on one side of the book you could do a image of a favorite picture of the husband & wife together & it could say something like ...
Starting a new chapter in our lives...& on the other side could be a baby sleeping in a crib?

Sorry, I have to remember drink coffee, then post icon_biggrin.gif

You could do the book idea with flowers trailing on one side but on the other side take a children's book and do an FBCT of a children's theme. or my favorite picture is a mother holding a new born child in her hands looking out a window to a flower garden. Just an idea.

I like the book idea too! I have always been intrigued by the idea of doing a baby shower cake with an edible image of the Mom-to-be's sonogram. You could do something with the mom&dad's picture on it as well. The writing could be something along the lines of "...watching our love grow...", just a thought?

You could also go to Quote Garden (website), they have some really nice quotes to use for babies, family, motherhood...there are so many great ones to choose from!

gmcakes: great minds think alike..I thought about the sonogram on the other side also, but I thought people might get weirded out about cutting into it.

OOh!! My coworker asked me for a cake on the same lines that I just delivered today. He wanted a Seattle theme b/c that's where they lived for a while and he proposed. I made a signpost with arrows pointing in different directions to Seattle attractions. I also made 2 people hugging and face to face like they were kissing with a heart outlined in fondant around them on the cake. It turned out very very cute. I took pics last night but haven't posted them yet. I will when I get home so you can see it. Its just a small cake for him and his wife. He was thrilled with it when he saw it.

A variation you could do is a woman showing pg and a guy holding a bouquet of flowers (silk or fondant) in one hand and his other hand on her belly or holding her hand. Put a heart outline around them. Or maybe him standing behind her hugging her with all their hands on her belly and write "great expectations -- [his name] and [her name]".

I thought of another one. This is one I would want from my husband. A miniture wedding cake . You could have it with all the colors she likes. I see some on the site have word all over as the decoration with her colors. I remember that feeling that you were not really lovely anymore. icon_smile.gif

I just did a google search of pregnant beauty ... this image would be cool if you could get an edible image with her picture to resemble the cover of this book .

WOW!

First, let me say THANK YOU to each and every one of you who took the time to respond to my brainstorm inquiry. I forgot who posted the question..... but I wanted to confirm, the husband did want a very small cake (4-6inch) cake for his wife that shows that he still feels she is the most beautiful woman in his life (even though she thinks differently as an expecting mom)

I knew I was going to have a challenging time trying to incorporate all aspects of who she is a a person. I wasn't sure if the cake should've been more related to a baby or more to the mom.

I think there are some GREAT brainstorming ideas that have been posted. I am analyzing each of them and will try to use my "Art 101" skills to incorporate them into this cake.

Thanks again everyone...

Bunchy-- For some reason I can't get on cakecentral in the evenings from home lately (UGH!!) but I have been able to add the photos to my little web gallery. It is a bit slow loading right now b/c of the number of photos. I need to clean it up some and separate. ANYHOO.... The picture of the cake I just did that I mentioned is at the bottom.
