I am craving something lime!! (No, I'm not pregnant! LOL) I've really been wanting to try a cake with some sort of lime filling &/or frosting, but I'm not really sure what flavor cake would be best to pair it up with beyond plain white. Any ideas??

I like angel food cake with ANYTHING...and lime is my favorite flavor (and favorite smell too, but nobody asked about that)
Godiva has come out with new turffles that are dark chocolate and lime...I'm not sure what I think about that, except that if its good enough for Godiva, its good enough for me!
What about one of those 7-up cakes with a lime filling.... sounds interesting and refreshing..

Just for you:
Seven-Up Cake
Seven Up makes this bundt cake moist and delicious.
2 cubes (8 ounces) margarine or butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon butter flavoring (found near vanilla in grocery stores)
3 cups flour
7 ounces 7-Up
PREPARATION:
Cream margarine and shortening until fluffy. Add sugar slowly. Add eggs one at a time. Mix in vanilla and the butter flavoring. Alternately add the flour and the 7-Up. Bake in greased, floured bundt pan or 10-inch tube pan at 350 degrees for about 1 hour. If desired, glaze with powdered sugar icing (below).
Powdered Sugar Icing
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1-2 tablespoons water
Mix all ingredients until smooth and of desired consistency. Drizzle over cooled cake.
I looked it up online... never tried it so I can't tell you if it's good or not.. but it sounds good...

My DH works 13 hour days and my daughter is 19 months... Maybe one day when I have more time and/or freedom. Say, when Paris is in college. LOL

Here's a lime cake my gramma gave me
1 1/3 C. sugar
2 C. all-purpose flour
2/3 t. salt
1 t. baking powder
1/2 t. baking soda
1 (3 oz.) pkg. lime gelatin
5 eggs
1 1/3 C. oil
3/4 C. orange juice
1/2 t. vanilla
1 t. lemon extract
1/2 C. key lime juice
1/3 C. powdered sugar
Flour and spray a 9 x 13 pan.Place dry ingredients into a bowl. Add eggs, oil, orange juice and extracts. Beat well until all blended. Pour into pan and bake at 350° F. for 25 to 30 minutes or until done.
Remove from oven and let stand for 15 minutes or until almost cool. Prick all over top with a fork and drizzle thoroughly with lime juice and powdered sugar. Cover and refrigerate for 45 min or so then cut cake in half and use lime filling... It's very limey!!!
Lime Filling
Ingredients
24 ounces cream cheese
3/4 cup granulated sugar
5 tablespoons sour cream
5 teaspoons all-purpose flour
4 large eggs
1 large egg yolk
1/2 cup frozen limeade concentrate, thawed
1/4 cup lime juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
green food coloring, optional
Directions
In a large mixing bowl combine cream cheese, sugar, sour cream, and flour. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth. Add eggs, and egg yolk, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the limeade concentrate, lime juice and vanilla extract. Stir in green food coloring, if desired
k, a while back I made a tres leches cake filled with strawberries and bananas, I used lime juice in the fruit mix to keep the bananas from turning brown. Gave it a wonderful tart flavor. Or you could make a key lime icing or filling for the cake. that would be good.
I still think tequila is the best idea though lol

7UP cake!!! YUUUUUMMMMMM!!!! I grew up eating this cake... It was very popular in the late 70's/early 80's. Very refreshing and I think it's best during those atrociously hot summers we have down here. Maybe it's a Southern thing because I know many Northerners and Mid-Westerners who've never heard of it? When DH and I lived in Key West, I would squeeze a little key lime juice into the batter and the icing both! And the best part...I walked out of my apartment, down the alley to the street and over the the bed & breakfast 2 doors down and picked the limes right out of the tree they had there! Now I go to our back yard....we brought a cutting from that tree back with us when we moved home!! Sorry...the whole 7UP cake just brought back a few memories mmmmmm....7UP cake! mmmmmm.....limes - Key limes!!! lol
