Im very green, can U help?.........

Im sure these are silly questions, but in alot of the books I buy they call for ingredients that Im not sure what they are, or where to buy them. Here are just a few, Im sure I'll think of more later icon_wink.gif

1) cake flour

2) albumin

3) glycerin

4) liquid glucose

Can somone tell me a little bit about them and where I can buy them? I know Wal-mart and Hy-Vee doesnt carry some of them. Thanks!!!

Hello

You should be able to get cake flour in the grocery stores, it's just a finer flour to improve the texture from what I've heard.

Albumen is the egg white. so you should be able to just buy the cartons with egg whites.

Glycerin I buy in the drugstore, sometimes you have to ask the pharmacist. I also use glycerin for bubble blowing - makes them shiny and colorful.

You can buy glucose at craft stores like Micheals.

Yes, some books can be confusing at first. My dh bought me a lovely book at Christmas that was printed in the UK and I had to do a little research to figure out what some of the ingredients were icon_smile.gif

No problem! Since other members have been so helpful to me, I'm glad to be of help to someone else for a change icon_smile.gif

I've been decorating just as a hobby for family and friends for about 13 years, only in the past 2 years have I been doing for those outside my family.

How about you? What got you interested in decorating?

Oh....sorry Im so late on my post galaglow......I left the house for awhile. icon_smile.gif I just started getting interested in cake decorating because I needed a hobby. Hubby is in pre-med and I figured if I didnt find something to do with my time when Im not at work, I would go crazy!!!! So anyway, Im glad I have the boards to help!!! icon_smile.gif

Hello Galaglow...one question : What is bubble blowing ? Do you have any pics ? And how do you do that ?

Hello icon_smile.gif I guess I should have explained that better...it's nothing to do with cake decorating...simply blowing soap bubbles like kids do, except I'm into a little heavier LOL! I like to make the giant bubbles with the big bubble wands. The glycerin just makes the bubbles look prettier icon_smile.gif
