Mailbox news?? I'm thinking about it but there's not much to go by on their site. Would you recommend it?
I just subscribed to American Cake Decorating and havn't recieved my first issue however I did get to look at a issue at a cake store here and it looks good. But stupid me thought that the mailbox news was a email newsletter-rofl. I just looked and it seems it's another magazine. So I'll have to Sub to that too. I know the ACD magazine looked good to me so I'd think it would too. Thats the best I can help.

Were there a lot of good ideas in the ACD magazine? I read somewhere that there wasn't too many professional looking cakes in it..
i subscribe to acd and i think it is great. there are alot of tips and ideas in it. And very professional cakes in it. Along with product showcases etc.
i subsribe to both. they have a deal on on one of the site... to subscribe to both. They are both everyother month.. So one month I get mailbox news and the next month I get ACD. I like them.
I subscribed in January to both through the website and still have not seen an issue! How long does it take to start getting them?
I subscribed to ACD the beginging of Nov 2005 and still haven't recieved it I've talked with them 4 different times e-mailed them and finally they called me last week if I don't recieve it by tomorrow I'm suppose to call them back again. I not happy at all with them I know the issue is every other month but come on it was ordered months ago give me a break is that how this business is run. I am a very patient person but this is crazy. Just venting I still have hope that maybe I'll recieve it. Wish me luck.
I subscribe to both and like them both. Mailbox News has cakes of all skill levels inside. Some you'll like and some you won't, but it's a great source for ideas. It's basically just a magazine of cake photos and not much else to it. American Cake Decorating Magazine has more professional looking cakes and no amature looking ones at all. They usually show you a technique or two every issue and feature a cake decorator. They have articles and information about cake shows and such. There's a lot of sugarcraft, gum paste flowers, fancier stuff that not all cake decorators get into. It's a cool magazine.
I will say that it can take months to get the magazines after you subscribe. Have no idea why! I had this happen with both mags, but once they start coming they will be on schedule.
For anyone who is thinking about subscribing to American Cake Decorating Magazine I'll share this code with you: SAS34 . Use this for phone or internet orders and save A LOT! This will get you $18 subscription for 1 year, usually $28. This is U.S. dollars, if you live in Canada, you'll still save, the price for Canada with this code is $24. Code comes from Softasilk Cake Flour box.
We had a topic that I wrote a few months ago (probably around the Oct/Nov. time) regarding ACD magazine. It took me MONTHS to receive my first issue. I orded the magazine in June and received my first issue in December. I found out that several members of CC were having a similar problem like me. It turns out that the ACD magazine is not too reliable at the beginning of your subscription cycle.
My advice to you is that if you ordered your subscription more than 2 months ago, you need to contact someone (they have an email address on their website) to have them send you the issues you've missed via priority mail. It took a few times of emailing back and forth to them, but in the end, they finally got it straight. I also heard that renewing your subscription also causes major gaps (months) in when you receive the magazines. Apparantly, they aren't the most organized company in the world in the subscription department.
Nevertheless, I enjoy looking at their magazines and I get some good creative inspiration from it!
I subscribe to Mailbox News and I love it! I also had problems at the beginning. They cashed my check and it was like 4 months later and I still didn't have my magazine. So I emailed them and they were very prompt with their response and also sent me the past 2 issues for free to make up for it. Since that was cleared up I have had no problems and have been very satisfied. I recommend MN just because there is such a range of decorating levels in that book. There is bound to be something that will inspire you in each issue! It's published every 2 months.
I get both ACD and MBN. I like MBN better. My ACD magazine never comes when it should. I just received the one for December/January 2 weeks ago. They never come until I send an e-mail asking about it. I have received a total of 3 and it's been that way everytime. The February/March issue of ACD was mailed out February 9 and the March/April issue of MBN was mailed on February 20. However, I haven't received either of them yet.
Okay, I didn't read through everyone's replys because I can guess what they say.
I, like others, get both. They are great, but everyone ALWAYS experiences problems at least once during their subscriptin so BE WARNED! But other than getting them late, they are nice to look at and offer alot of ideas.
IMO, since they don't have any competition, why would they ever get on the ball to fix the problem.
I also subscribe to both. Looking at these posts reminds me that they are a great source to look at for ideas.
Has anyone subscribed to any of the UK magazines? They seem to have even MORE ideas than the American ones do. I've gotten a couple from the bookstore and I'd like to subscribe to them.
Just to let you all know, I just rec'd my March/April issue of Mailbox News today, so they're on their way!!! That is assuming you've been receiving them. If it's a new subscription, might take a while yet!
I used to subscribe to Mailbox News years ago, and I really liked it then. Hope to renew my subscription shortly. Lots of great photos of cakes from the subscribers, lots of how-to articles, cake club listings etc. I'm sure it's even better now. I have wanted to subscribe to American Cake Decorating Mag. but I really don't like using my credit card online too much. I found calling the phone number listed on their website a big waste of time---I kept getting stuck in an electronic message hell.
