My friend asked me to do a cake for her son this weekend ... she had originaly requested a yellow cake moistened with rum syrup... she dropped by yesterday and her son had a taste of a chocolate cake I had made over the weekend with oreo cream filling and loved it .... she asked if I could do her son's cake with 50/50 yellow / chocolate .... with the oreo filling ... now in my mind these two types of cakes don't go together. The reason she wants two different kinds is that some people may not eat chocolate and she is flexible about the yellow cake .... I had thought of doing a rectangular shaped cake one end chocolate and the other end the yellow cake ... is that something that is done ??? one of my concerns is that it would look odd and I may not be able to get it to be leveled and look as one piece... I would appreciate any feedback

the the chocolate layer cake I made was from this site submited by triplet mom

A friend of mine makes up both batters and puts them each into a bowl with a pour spout. Then she pours both batters at the same time from opposite ends, and they meet in the middle. They don't really mix and she ends up with 1/2 one flavor and 1/2 the other flavor. She just bakes it like normal and it comes out like a regular cake. You just level as usual.

I do the same thing as what thyterrell explained above. However, one thing I found is that the batters need to be the same consistency. When I did it, the yellow was a bit thinner and they didn't bake in the same amount of time. The next time I did it, I thickened up the yellow a bit and it baked just fine.

I have done what the above mentioned. I have also made one layer all chocolate and one layer all white or whatever.. then just cut in the middle and stack and back the two flavors up to each other. hope that made sense.
