I saw a gum paste flower kit at Garden Ridge.....I am pretty sure it was makde by Wilton. Has anybody used this? I have not made any flowers and I was wondering if this kit would be any good to start learning.

I am also looking around for cake decorating classes

Hi, southaustingirl!

I bought the kit you are talking about, also just to learn. I have gotten it out and used it twice. I still don't have my gumpaste figured out quite right I guess, my flowers are ok, but not near as good as what I see on here! I guess that will come with time. As for the kit, I like it...my only suggestion is if you want to make roses, I highly recommend buying the kit that is specifically for roses. It has a cutter set that saves an amazing amount of work, and for now at least I am more comfortable using it. I have only had the kit for about 4 months so I am VERY new at this myself! HTH

I have the same kit, I just got it a week ago. I really like it, I've never made flowers before I got this and I thought it was easy to understand when I finally tried. I am set on making hydrangeas though, and this set doesn't have anything that I need to make those. I have to buy the leaf & petal veiner seperately as well as the cutters. Ugh.

there are pretty good instructions with it just practise practise practise- even the same batch of gum paste on different days acts differently- some days its softer than others- just takes some fiddling thats all

Trust me on this, to make a gumpaste rose, use the instructions in the book, yes all petals separate. My C3 students that have taken my gumpaste class prefer the way from the gumpaste book over the fondant rose.
