I need help with making fondant bows. I tried one today and it looked horrible. I cut it and then let it dry with tissue paper in the middle. But then it still looked so flat. How can I make it look better? How long should it dry? It didn't look like a bow just a piece of fondant folded over. Please help. I would post a pic to show you what I mean but I'm embarrassed to b/c all of your bows look so good.

I found that if you roll it thin, it looks more real, fabric like. I always mix a little gumtex into mine also to help it stand up. Sometimes, it can take up to a whole day or more the get it to dry enough to stand on it's on and form that shape you want. There is a great tutorial here on cc, with how to pics and easy instructions! Good luck!

Thanks so much for your replies and for the links. I don't think it was thin enough. Maybe it was too heavy and thats why it would fall. I also don't think I waited long enough for it to dry. I'm going to try again tommorow. Hopefully it will go better.

I just made my first decent fondant bow last nite, so perhaps I can help. My earlier ones looked like fondant folded over too! This time I added some gumpaste to my fondant...this made it super nice and stretchy (and it dries faster). Then I rolled it really thin and made my bow loops nice and wide. So when I pinched together the ends it looked so much nicer. I put some paper towel all scrunched up in the loops for them to dry. I made the ribbon flaps that hang down the same way and made sure I put paper towel in random spots underneath that as well.

I hope this makes sense!

putting the loops on their side to dry works too - does that make sense?
