I have the tip saver case that holds 52 tips and it still wasn't enough for me. Although I have had it for years, I just realized yesterday that I could stack tips and still close the cover. So, if I have several of the same tip, I can stack two together (maybe three).

Also, I've always been storing my couplers right over the tips in the case. Maybe everybody does this; but I just discovered it and thought I'd pass it along as I have gotten so many tips from this forum!

I gave up on the tip storage containers a long time ago...seems like someone was always knocking them over, and I had way too many tips! My mother-in-law is an avid estate sale shopper, and is always picking up cake decorating supplies for me, so I have many duplicates (which do come in handy at times). I have resorted to using a small storage unit with lots of drawers that have a latch to open (so I don't accidentally open all the drawers when I move the whole thing!). The one I found has twenty four tip-out drawers...I bought it at Big lots for $6 or $7. I labeled the drawers by tip type (round, open star, basketweave, etc.), and also listed the tip numbers on the labels so it is simple to find just what I am looking for. I also use a couple of the drawers for my couplers and flower nails.

Tina, that's a good idea too! But I, myself, like the portability of the tip saver case. Your mother-in-law is very nice to pick up things for you when she finds them.

I have the master kit and I have several extra tips that I have stacked 4 high. But I really need to find a new storage solutuon.

LOL it's funny how sometimes it take us a while to notice these things huh?

Linda - I totally understand the protability issue! I have a little kit I put together when I deliver cakes in case of repairs...I carry it (icing, tips, small spatula, etc.) in a small plastic storage box with a handle. As for my home storage, the unit I have is just over 12" high, 12" wide, and 3-4" in depth, the drawers all close securely, and there is a handle on top of it, too. Since I have a tiny kitchen, I keep most of my baking/decorating things in the basement, so am always looking for the best/easiest way to get things from one place to the other.

Yes - my mother-in-law is great! She has come across some great bargains, found some awesome pans for less than a dollar, that I have not been able to find anywhere! She found an OLD (but in almost new condition!) set of tart pans and aspic cutters at an estate sale for $1.50...I have seen similar ones sell for over thirty dollars on e-bay and in antique stores, and not in nearly as nice shape.

I too keep my tips in a drawer unit. It's just faster for me to get them in and out of. The little storage containers are good if you're going somewhere to decorate, but when at home I like to work out of my little drawer system.

I just bought three new tips this weekend and more couplers. I just dumped them in the bottom of my tackle box (thinking I'll have to figure it out later...since I'm out of space). THANKS for posting this handy trick. My problem is solved.
thanks

They are all great tips.
If you ask Squirrelly Cakes very nicely she might show you the beautiful tip storage cabinet she received as a christmas present.

Tina, you don't keep your drawer unit in the cellar, do you? I have to keep some stuff in my cellar too; bulky stuff. Wouldn't it be awesome to have an area for decorating that is completely designed for cake decorating?

YES!!! It would be awesome to have a dedicated area as I'm with you both and store most of my cake stuff in totes in the basement. We're in the process of hopefully moving and the kitchen is much bigger with more cabinets. The pans will probably still go downstairs but I think I can probably fit all my decorating items in the cabinets!!
