I read that people trace images on thier cakes using piping gel. Isn't that a clear product? How does that work? I also read that others use an art brush with food coloring. Is that our regular icing colors we get by Wilton?

well yes it is a clear gel....some color it first....I however use the gel in tubes that you squeeze on and let it stand a little bit to "harden" then press it down onto a cake that has been frosted and the frosting has "set" a little. it works pretty good.....

Flavurdfun, please tell me more aroub that technique or send me to a post where it has been explained. Do you trace with the tube of gel onto a wax paper in reverse? I've been cutting out stencils for years and it takes a long time to create them. I have also recently been considering investing in a Kopykake.

Flayvurdfun: Can you tell me which brand of gel in a tube you use? The only one I have seen I believe is Betty Crocker. Is that the one you are talking about?

Thanks,
Cecilia

make sure when you do it that the writing is reversed so when you transfer it comes out readable. it's best to use clear jel and then go over it with colored icing. you can find it at any decorating store online.
