I want to make a multi-directional street sign for a cake I am doing. I was thinking of how to do this and have it be legible. The cake is only a small oval. It is for a coworker who wanted it to surprise his wife. I'm looking to put on the street sign various points of interest in the Seattle area. The cake will have the sign and fondant figures of him and her kissing since this is where they met and he proposed.

I haven't had time to fiddle with my airbrush yet so I can't use that. The only thing I could think of to make it edible and legible would be to do white fondant and write on it with the food color markers. It doesn't need to be edible so my last resort will be just printing out some signs and gluing them to a pretzel rod or something.

Any suggestions would be welcome!!!

Fondant and food markers would be neat...you can write in green and outline it in green so it has that "green and white" look to it....

Don't forget to post pix! icon_biggrin.gif

yeah, i agree...fondant and edible markers. just make sure the fondant is somewhat stiff so your writing will come out better.

I'm going to give it a try tomorrow night so I guess tonight I'll cut out some pieces of fondant, add some gumtext, and hope it dries well by tomorrow night. I told my coworker, who's receiving the cake, that I'd bring it in on Wednesday.

What about doing it in colored chocolate? Check out the Whimsical bakehouse book, or Mikaza's cakes. She has alot of chocolate work. It dries virtually instantly and is very fun looking.
