I did most of my modeling this weekend. I have 5 ducks (see attached) that are going to sit in a circle on the top of the 8" tier. (Cake is two tiers...see my other post if you want for a sketch of the whole cake.)
I'm okay with how the ducks came out, but I feel like i need something in the middle of them all. Something with a little height and I'm at a loss. I was thinking maybe a "sign" saying Welcome Baby but I don't know.
Does anyone have any ideas? Silly question I'm SURE you do! Thanks!
how cute...i love the little duckie with the pacifier. can't wait to see the finished product.
I think the sign is a great idea you could also add some bubbles or grass to fill the open spaces around the bottom of the sign - not sure which would work best with the theme of the cake. Beautiful ducks by the way
great job on the ducks......you are very talented.....when i read this post i had the funniest idea.....
what about making an egg.......with a crack....and a little baby duck coming out....you'd only have to do the head part......
anyway that was my first thought.....good luck! Donna
How about a tree? A sign on a post is alos a great idea! You can make it out of colored chocolate so it won't be very heavy.
The egg would be pretty funny! I'm sure how I'd do it though. Suggestions?
Also, any ideas for executing a sign? I think the ducks sucked out all my brain power.
Thanks for helping me. I really appreciate it!
Your ducks are adorable. I think the egg idea is really cute. Maybe with a "crack" in it. You could mold some fondant in a plastic easter egg, use a toothpick or knife and cut the crack into it and tint the inside of the crack with black. I also like the grass idea or maybe a cute little blanket made of fondant also.

I'm tossing around several of these ideas.
I like the egg one, but I'm not sure if that will give me the height that I want, unless it's lifted on something.
Has anyone done signs? Do you have any pictures?
Thanks!
As I suggested, try doing the sign in colored chocolate. Just do an outline with the text (mirrored) on some parchment, wait till it dries, then fill in the outline with a color and let it dry. when you lift it off the parchment, turn it over and you have a really fun sign! go to this website and you can see some examples of colored chocolate work.http://www.gateauxpastries.com/
