icon_smile.gif I have a question about the Wilton Decorating courses. A friend and my self are taking the 1st course and are not sure if we should go ahead with 2&3. Our instructor seems to be more worried about talking about her personal life than she does teaching ans we are feeling we can buy the lesson books and do a self teach class. She just sits in class and chabbers and doesn't even really demo any of the things she is reading out of the lesson book. Help us make our decision please!!!!!
Thanks a Million

I am a Wilton instructor and taking the courses in class are very helpful. Is there another instructor or store you can take the class?? You learn so much by working with a helpful instructor. I know in my class and in the class I have taken from other instructor, all the best tips have come from the class interaction not the book.

Also, please make sure you give feedback to the store -- it is your class!!!

Hi sistersinsweets and welcom to CakeCentral.com!

I took the Wilton Courses all the way through Course III and also took some side workshops as well. I had the most wonderful teacher, she was so helpful and just really really good at her job.

I am sorry you are having such a negative experience. I would suggest talking to the store about your teacher and seeing if there is another store in the area, or a different teacher you can transfer to. Or you could always contact Wilton as well. (Since that is who she works for, not the store) You can get contact Wilton here:
1-800-772-7111 ext. 2812

I personally found the classes extremely valuable. I had already bought the books and most of the tools, and was trying to do it self taught. But I am a hands on person and really needed some guidance.

After I completed the classes, learning new techniques is so much easier, because I know all of the basics so I know I am doing it right. I only wish they had courses in my area past Course III icon_smile.gif

I would definitely say to anyone out there that is just getting started to take the Wilton Courses. Give yourself a strong foundation to grow from.

I'm with these other ladies. I would definately talk to the store. You are paying to learn how to decorate cakes and not to hear the instructor's life story. Maybe they could re-fund your money or something and then I might find somewhere else to take my classes.

I agree with everyone, too. You are essentially employing her and if she isn't meeting your expectations you need to do something about it. In the Michael's where I've been taking the classes my teacher reports to an Event Coordinator. You might try talking to that person about your problem. Hope that helps.
