March 10th is my little girls third birthday and she wants a flower theme. Does anyone have any ideas for a cute cake? I am new to this site and didn't see a way to search all of the cake photos as I will need one to follow. Any help would be really appreciated...thanks. icon_biggrin.gif

You can search cake pics in the Galleries. Just click on the "galleries" tab at the top of the page (between "articles" and "Wilton pan instructions") and then on "search" on the Galleries page - it's right underneath the title.

I have always wanted to try and do a sheet cake then put small cupcake on it in the shape of a flower, then put on a candy clay stem and leaves..

My daughter had me do a "flower power" florescent colors cake a few years ago. My first (bad) attempt at fondant. But the idea is cute for a little girl too.

Wow. that's cool! Do you do the fondant on it upside down then turn it over onto your cake board to do the rest? How big is the base (small cake)? I would be concerned about how stable it was, but I'd love to try something like that some day.

not sure what degree of difficulty you are after... but if you want simple you could always use a shaped flower/petal pan...

sheilaF.........yes I did ice and put the fondant on upside down, it was a lot easire that way.....I actually did this cake right before I found CC......the pot was not very hard......the flowers were my first try, I felt like I got lucky!!! LOL......but it would be simple to recreate this and just throw in a bouquet of silk flowers!!!!!!!! The size of the pot to give you an idea was 6' cake on the bottom.....and then I actually baked in a stainless steel bowl for the wider part at the top and just stacked and carved into the shape. After I did it, I thought.......why didn't I just literally bake the cake in a FLOWER POT.....I bet if you plug up the hole in the bottom, maybe line the whole thing with foil or parchment it would work...I don't know, never tried so I can't say for sure, but it seems plausible. In any case, it was a decent sized cake and tons of fun to make and waaaaaaayy simpler than I think it looks!! Of course, I used crushed up oreos for the dirt and handled the fondant waaaay too much, so you can see all my handprints in the side of the pot LOL live and learn, it was my first try at fondant too!! As for stability, I didn't use any dowels or anything, I just refrigerated the whole thing over night and the fondant stiffened up somewhat....it felt REALLY stable, I think because the entire bottom was covered in fondant.....and I used a pound cake, but I did torte it too, but it was plenty stable.....believe me, I'm not gentle with anything!!!!!! LOL

Well, I am definitely going to have to give that a try. Maybe for Mother's day. This month I've already got to many cakes to make (I should be downstairs right now working on the one I need to have picked up tomorrow morning). I could probably do the wonder mold and just trim it a tad less round. Not sure how a cake would bake in the clay pots. I'd be afraid it would shatter from the heat.

I don't know, I'm pretty sure I saw a cake on here that was made to look like a container of movie popcorn and I think they said they baked it in a flower pot........because when i looked at that I said "why didn't I think of that?"

All of your cakes are gorgeous. I made a flower cake this weekend to practice with FondX. Maybe you will like it. I'll try and attach the photo. If not, it is in the gallery under weddingcakes/whimsical. O.k. for some reason I can't upload the photo but it is in the gallery.

Here are some ideas:

http://www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com/flower-cake.html

Also: A bakery here did a cupcake flower bouquet for me (before I started doing cakes) and it was a huge hit. It was a pretty ceramic flower pot with a styrofoam ball in it with cupcakes attached to the ball with dowels. Each cupcake was decorated to look like a flower. Very cute and each guess got to pick their own flower.

Good Luck
