Please clarify...

If I ice my cake in BC, smooth with paper towel, let it crust...can I then go back and spread some fresh bc onto the back of my MMF pieces like glue and stick them on to the sides of the crusted bc cake? They will not mush the cake or slide off?

I'm thinking of attaching MMF shamrocks to the side of a St. Patricks day bc cake. Will this work? Should I let the shamrocks dry first? How long?

Thanks.

What I would do is: go ahead and ice & smooth your cake as you mentioned. Then have some BC in an icing bag with a plain round tip, squeeze some icing out either directly on your MMF piece or on the cake where you plan to put MMF piece and attach it that way. Use just enough to make the MMF piece stick, but not too much where the icing will push out and show around your piece. Hope that makes sense! icon_redface.gif

Also, I don't think it's necessary to let your MMF shamrocks dry long before attaching them to the cake. You should be able to cut out the shamrock and attach immediately.

I tried making a batch of MMF yesterday and I didn't do very well. Can you share your recipe? I tried making a small batch but it stayed really sticky and it seems like I added more sugar than the recipe called for.

I used the one from Bunnywoman that I found somewhere on this website.

It's
1 cup mini marshmallows
1 tbsp water
1 1/2 - 1 3/4 cup powder sugar

I only made it twice for practice. The first time it worked fine and the second time it came out sticky like you said yours did. I'm not sure why, as I thought I did the same thing both times.

I'm new at all this, too. Maybe someone else can help?

You can attach it with buttercream, as described above. It shouldn't take that much. You can also use piping gel to attach them. Just spread a little on the back and it will stick.

As far as letting them dry, it will depend. If you are doing a round cake, then I would do attach them before they dry, so that they will bend to the shape of the cake. If you are doing something like a square, then it wouldn't hurt to let them dry first as long as you aren't wanting to bend them around an corner or edge.
