I was wondering if you can mix piping gel and buttercream together. Have any of you tried this before? I am trying to get a foamy, bubbly, water effect. THanks for any help.

I've mixed a little piping gel into my buttercream when I'm doing leaves or something that needs some elasticity. It didn't make it bubbly, though. I do know that if you just add color to the piping gel and stir it up kind of hard, it will have bubbles in it.

let's see if I can do this, I will try to upload a photo of the cake I am trying to make. The sub will be 3-D and I am trying to figure out how to do the water along the side. Okay, here I go, lets see if it works. I plan to use piping gel to do the water that is over the sub, I just need ideas on the rest of the water around it.

if the bc and gel dont mix well why not use white coloring in the gel....... I know that would work.

Could you take buttercream and ice it thickly, and take a textured paper towel and dab it all over to make the icing look rippled and bumpy...then maybe take an airbrush (or the Wilton spray) and ever so gently spray a very very light bit of blue over the top??? Maybe sprinkle a bit of sparkle dust over it as well?

Or maybe even just get a dab of blue piping gel on a spatula or a paper towel and use that to pat all over the icing...?

if you whipped up blue jello just before it sets would it get air bubbles in it?

Actually whipping jello with a bit of milk will do that but then you'd have to keep it refrigerated....

How about royal icing kind of spackled on with the flat side of a spatula?

I think I know what you are trying to do and if you look in my photos at the white one with the 2 trees and waterfall and look at the detail in the bottom of the waterfall that's similar to what you want. I just took a small paint brush and blended the bc with the gel to get that effect. It's fun to play with to get it the way you want and it looks real. Post the pic when you are done. icon_biggrin.gif
