I just got my confirmation back for the ICES OH weekend of sharing (I've never been to one of these events before). I signed up for 3 of the mini classes - a cookies class, a buttercream borders and techniques (which ended up being cancelled) and a scultpted grooms cake class. Attached to the confirmation was a supply list of everything I need to bring.

The one for the sculpted grooms cake class is pretty extensive. Apparently we are making the big mouth bass cake. There are about 15 items on the list, quite a few of which I would need to purchase (things like pearl luster, foam core board).

So here is my thing: it never even occured to me that I would have to bring so much stuff myself. I sort of assumed (I know, you should never to that!) - since I was paying $39 for the class - that pretty much everything was being provided.

We are on an extremely tight budget and it was a very big deal just to be able to pay for me to go to this event. Should I have expected to have to buy and bring additional stuff? I'm very excited to go for the weeked but I'm also feeling a little upset about this.

Thanks for listening (reading!)
Cathy

I am not surprised that there are additional costs, but they really should have put that on something before you signed up and paid for it so that you would have known. I am sorry that happened to you.

I've never been to anything like this before, but when I took the wilton classes I was shocked at how expensive it was to buy all the supplies. I almost had a heart-attack. One of the friends I was taking the class with ended up dropping out after realizing she couldn't afford all of the stuff they expected us to buy. I hope that you have fun at the classes though. We're on a tight budget so I know how you feel, but my advice. It might be a once in a life-time chance. So go and have a great time!

Do you have friends or people you know going too? Maybe you can share some things. I would try to talk to the instructors or the state rep and see what they think. Sometimes the stuff on the list is stuff you would use but don't neccessarily NEED for the class. Like the luster dust, I am sure you could get away with out having it.. HTH
