I am practicing the art of "self taught" gumpaste flowers and I need some help. What do you use to glue the different parts together? I have seen equal part of meringue powder and water, fondant mixed with water, egg whites ... I am doing the cakes for my daughters wedding and have spent days on the flowers, but now I need to do arrangements.

Thanks for any advice that you can give me.

I used clear vanilla extract with a paintbrush to put together all of my gumpaste roses and even after almost a year, they're still "glued" together!

Thanks, thyterrell. That is what I have used for my roses, but I am having to add calyx, stems and leaves to my gumpaste dogwood. I am making a little ball, flattening one side and putting a wire in - gluing that to the blossom so that I can put the calyx on top of the ball. I will try one with the clear vanilla and see if it holds.

I appreciate your advice.

Someone told me once to drop a small ball of fondant into a jar of vanilla extract (not a full jar, just a little bit) and leave it overnight and the fondant will dissolve leaving a sticky edible "glue"....

Thanks, Kitagrl. I will give that a try. I tried the fondant and water, but wasn't happy with the results. Maybe the vanilla will work better.
