I am looking into purchasing an EI printer, and would like to know if anyone knows anything about them, and what is a good one to purchase. I am looking at the Canon ip1500. Anyone have one of these? Please give me pros and cons, because I don't want to waste my time and money on one that isn't up to par!

TIA

Sherry

The 1500 will work... I have the IP 4000 which takes 5 color carts and it does provide a lot more color and detail and options. The better the printer the better dot matrix you get. However I think all those with the 1500 are just as happy and content as I am with the 4000. Edible art rocks.

I just bought an Epson cx3810 and it is an all in one. Scanner, printer and copier and I love it! It takes 4 cartridges which I purchased from Kopykake. I actually won the ptriner, brand new from ebay and with shipping I only paid $45! I have printed out some photos and am absolujely thrilled!

Wow Izzybee! That was an incredible deal! Maybe I should be looking on Ebay!

I always go to Ebay for all my decorating stuff. However, I did have to go to Kopykake for the cartridges, and I wanted to try wafer paper before I invested in the frosting sheets, and find them at Sugarcraft for $16 for a pack of 100 sheets. Good luck!

so all you are buying is a regular printer with Ediable Ink?

Yeppers! Most of the printers come with regular "non edible" ink, you then must buy the "edible" ink. I've been shopping around, but I always think asking others, who actually have these printers, is the best way to find out which ones are good, or not good. That's why I LOVE this site!

Sherry,

I have an ip1500, but it's still in the box. My ink and supplies are scheduled to arrive here tomorrow. I'll post after I've fiddled with it a bit tomorrow.

I chose this one because it uses the cheapest ink cartridges. I had a canon that used these same two cartridges for years, and the images I produced (on paper, not icing, mind you) were just fine. I can't imagine that icing images wouldn't be fine, too. The printer is capable of printing in finer resolution than the human eye can discern.

Honestly, I've had several Canons over the years. Have a 750 now. I've never been anything but pleased...and I'm picky. I think any Canon machine that is compatible with the edible ink cartridges will be fine.

But, as I said...I'll report back after I've actually printed with this printer on an icing sheet. icon_smile.gif

Thanks Crimsicle!

I will wait to hear from you. I have had Canon printers in the past also, but right now we have a Lexmark and an HP, neither of which have edible ink available for them. icon_cry.gif
So I guess I'll be buying a 3rd!

I feel your pain! This is my FOURTH printer. There's my 750...my "main" printer. Then there's my Epson that prints directly on CDs and DVDs (it would print on paper, too, but I don't like the picture quality as much as my Canon, so I keep both hooked up all the time). Then there's my teeny-tiny travel printer I keep in my laptop case. And now my icing printer. My family already thinks I'm nuts. I can't wait to hear what they have to say when they see what I've bought NOW! icon_smile.gif)

FYI, The ink cartridges for the 1500 only put about 40 images out. The 5 ink set for the 4000 IP will do 80 to 90 so it is a better deal.

Ive been using edible inks for two years now and Ive learned much from all the failures ive had in the past. Im using a Canon iP1000 and its great plus the inks are the cheapest of the lot. I will suggest that you put your printing preferences on high to get rid of the banding. Usually happens after youve printed 20 pages already. Only thing is that with the 2 set cartridge...sometimes one color is used up before the other. Aside from that...images are great!

I just finished printing my first two images with my ip1500. So far, so good! In the print options, I checked "vivid photo" because I thought my test image was a little weak. That did the trick...the final print was intense and terrific. I'm happy with my purchase.

thin4life, I got mine on Ebay. I get most of my major "hardware" for decorating on Ebay.
