Has anyone put a brochure together with pictures of your cakes and some basic prices? Did you use software at home, or did you have it done at a print shop?

My father made brochers for his church at home. I'll find out what software he used, don't think it was anything fancy because he's not the type to buy software at all. They turned out very nice. Once I find out what he did I'll post it here.
He bought the paper at a dollar general store. I remember how he bragged on himself for saving so much money. The only expensive part of the process was the printer cartridge, but come to think of it I think he found that on sale too. : )

I've never done brochures, but i've done business cards and flyers at home with a business card program and it was alot cheaper than going to a print shop. The business I used to work for used a software program to do their brochures and they always came out very professional looking. If you go on Ebay you can probably find a program dirt cheap and save yourself alot of money on the printing by doing them at home.
Just an idea.

Not to plug a business here, but I'm not connected to it at all so I'm only sharing this because I've had good experiences with them for business cards. VistaPrint has specials all the time. You might even be able to do business brochures with them... not sure, I know they do post cards and business cards, also business card magnets. If you go to their website you'll find a 250 free business card offer when you select your card from a small sample list. You'll just pay shipping... go with the longest shipping time for a better price, usually they come a lot quicker than they say they will. icon_lol.gif
I always get my cards through them.
Here's a link: http://www.vistaprint.com/vp/ns/studio.aspx?icparts=yes&cfs=-1&pf_id=064&combo_id=4298&combo1=904.100.18.11339|11339|137|0&gallery_id=53
I've upgraded some of the time, which will give you a lot more card selection, but if you just want a way to pass your name along these will do fine. I don't promote myself as a cake decorator since I'm not yet licensed, but have used the free card and placed my blog address at the bottom.
Hope this is useful to someone! thumbs_up.gif

i have made brochures with my pictures and keep them in my purse at all times because it seems like the subject of me making cakes come up all the time.... at church, at the kids school, playgroup, girls night out,.... what ever. This way I have pictures to show them, then they take it and show their friends. Works better than a card for me, but I have those too!

I recommend www.vistaprint.com also. I got my business cards through them and they turned out very nice. They have lots of templates and if you're stuck on how the layout/design should be they'll create something for your for free in about 30 minutes over the phone.

for those who have it. MS Publisher will let you do ALL (cards, brochures, flyers, invoices, etc.) of the forms your business would need and maintain a consistent look item to item.

it is very easy to use

big advantages are you can make changes at anytime and print only as many as you need

I did some brochures for a wedding show recently. I tried it on a software program from Best Buy for only $20! This software has 20 programs in it. !0 for your home stuff and 10 for business stuff! IT's great!! I went to office max for brochure paper that is already scored for easy folding. Hope this helps and good luck with the brochures!

I always use Print Shop for my brochures, business cards, box labels and such. I also bought the pre-scored brochure paper, it makes it so much easier to fold although they are a bit expensive. I had inkpens printed through www.gopromos.com last year to hand out at a bake sale, I give one to most of my customers with their cake.

I agree, Vista Print is wonderful....just a word of caution, though, if you get their free cards, it will have Vista Print advertising on the back. Something they don't tell you.

The cards I got from www.vistaprint.com cost about $20 for 250, print in color on the front and black & white on the back. Compared to other places that price wasn't bad.

Just a little hint icon_wink.gif, if you sign up for an account you'll start getting emails with special offers and can get your cards pretty cheap.
