I have to cover a 1/4 sheet cake in red frosting. I know bad idea, I tried to talk her out of it. My new shippment of Americolor has not arrived yet. I used the remainder of the Americolor bottle that I have and some wilton super red. I have gotten to a dark pink/salmon. I know it will turn more red over time, but how much more red will it get?
Don't know how much redder is will get, but I have actually used the red spray when could not get red red. Just an idea. Good Luck!
I have had good results when I started with pink frosting and used wilton RED-RED. I am sure your icing will darken in a few hours or overnight.
thanks for the responses traci and bulldog
I am hoping it will turn red on its own, but I am off to Hobby Lobby to pick up the red spray just in case.
I HATE RED!
The recipe for Red frosting is: 1 ounce of red paste food coloring to 1 cup of icing. Try to always start with pink icing. I use Red Red & the No taste red mix together (By Wilton) Always try to mix your colors the night before. The colors will darken over a period of time. Good luck
I always keep the powdered red, black and royal blue colors on hand. For the red especially, I can use alot of that along with the Wilton or Americolor and I won't get a bitter taste like you do when you use alot of the gel colors.
