I am wanting to make a cake this morning but I haven't gone to the store yet and am out of milk
Can I just use water instead of milk? It's all liquid right?
Thanks

Is it a scratch or box? If it's a box then you are okay. If it's a scratch, don't expect the results to be anywhere near what they would be with milk. Milk has fat in it as well as flavour so that will have an impact.
I modified a scratch recipe this week and used water in place of the milk and the cake was very dry and crumbly.

It's a scratch cake recipe. I do have some Heavy whipping cream. Will that help me? LOL Or do I just have to get my but up, get dressed and go to the grocery store?
Hmmmm, perhaps add a little bit of water to the cream? Once again there will be a higher fat content than milk....you know who would have a better answer? Squirrelly or Cake_Princess, they seem to really understand the chemistry in baking really well.
I haven't seen squirrely cakes ... where is she??? should we send a search party out for her???
Ok! I'm off to the grocery store. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions but I reckon I just need milk! LOL
