I tried my hand at FBCT. I made it last nite, and just put it on the cake. It is a cheerleader, and she looks all sloppy. Please help me. The black lines just look smudgy, and she has a small black smear on her face. Is there anything I can do? icon_cry.gif It has taken me 24 hours to get to this point, (I have 2 little ones) I can't start again and it needs to be done by noon tomorrow.

I know that some people simply re-pipe over the transfer to make the lines smooth. I have only done one transfer, so I'm not much help. But maybe this will help by giving you a bump at least icon_smile.gif

I don't think you have anything to worry about - it looks great to me.

I think your little cheerleader is cute. Perhaps a knife or spatula dipped in warm water to smooth out the edges a bit.

careful using a warm knife to smooth it out.. it will only smudge it more.. i would pipe over it.. next time try making the transfer to fit your cake size... if you have a 10 inch round cake then do the entire transfer in a 10 inc round shape... then it fits nicely on top of the cake.. you dont get the "plaque" look to it.. also, i've stopped doing fbct's.. i do choclate transfers only.. no smudges.. more colors, its smoother and thinner AND it dries within minutes!!

Look I think we are so harsh on ourselves I have just had a busy weekend and made a cake for an 80 year old man...stressed did not know what to do....and was not happy really, so I charged less than I normally would now when I look at it I think it is rather nice. I really think you have done a good job Just leave it. Dont mess around with it then you will ruin it. Good luck they will be really happy with it...We are our worst critics especially if it is hanging aroun for a while.

I have resorted to re-piping the whole thing. I should have just done a gel pattern transfer icon_sad.gif It is looking a little better now. Will let you know how it goes... Thank you thumbs_up.gif

its the same concept.. except you use melted chocolate and follow the design... i use zip lock baggies, melt a few colored chips or add candy coloring to get what i want, snip the corner and go.. very easy and dries quickly... i have several in my photos..

Well, here she is. I'm very disappointed with how she looks. She kind of looks like a monkey because I had to scrape her mouth off and try to patch it. It didn't work thumbsdown.gif . Oh well-- she loved it anyway, but next time I will try the chocolate transfer instead- Thanks for all of your help!
(sorry it took so long to post, I was so flustered making it I forgot to take a picture and had to have her send me one!)

now, now...

she does NOT look like a monkey.

she looks like your typical rah-rah cheerleader! -- extra perky!

you did just fine.

I frequently do this with my FBCTs. It gives them a nice dimensional look to them too.

I think she turned out really cute, not at all like a monkey - and practice makes perfect.

I love doing chocolate transfers, but personally I prefer FBCT because a) they're less likely to break or crack, and 2) you can cut into them and eat them without taking them off first.

Good work!!!

Thanks for your kind words, practice does make perfect and if I just do a cake for dessert I guess I could try another one icon_smile.gif . I really appreciate your help, I'd be lost without CC- icon_smile.gif

she's not bad for your first one. what i do is pipe the border, then take a toothpick and clean up the edges and take out any black that got into places that i don't want it. then i freeze the outline.

once i take the outline out, i fill, then put a piece of waxed paper or parchment over the top and smooth it so there are no lines or empty spaces. then freeze it solid so i can transfer.

believe me, i've done worse. be proud of her and practice practice practice!

good luck!
