okay, I know I've seen this on the forum, but it's the end of a long day, and I can't find it so forgive my asking.....when you make a birthday cake for a first birthday, and you make a "smash cake" too--do you charge extra for it? if so, how much? I'm going to make a Pooh cake for a birthday and thought of getting the mini bear pan to make a mini Pooh for the smash cake. But I wasn't sure if I should charge the same as a regular birthday cake or maybe $5 more. What's the usual procedure??
thanks!
In my opinion, I think you sould charge for it depending on how much time you put into it. If the detail work on the smash cake is extensive, charge them.
I would encorporate the cost of the smash cake into the price I'm getting for the regular cake and then tell the person it's an all enclusive price - - again - this is for a VERY plain smash cake with not much more than the same colors used as the main cake and simple borders........
On a website earlier today I saw they are charging $10 for the mini bear (made into some other characters). I believe it was www.cindacreativecakes.com, they do lots of different cupcakes and mini bears. Janice
I don't usually charge extra for the smash cake, it's just part of the procedure for me. Many people do a whole 6 inch layer but that's not really necessary, I either do a little 4 inch or a jumbo cupcake.
A smash cake is a little cake that is usually given to the birthday child (usually when they turn 1) so they can just "smash" into it and play with it. Like their own little cake, while everyone else eats the bigger cake.
I would charge for it but but how to charge for it also depends on your area. I have a friend that can't give an all inclusive price because where he lives people want to think they are getting a bargin so he has to price things in a per piece way. People don't seem to mind that it adds up to the same cost but they don't want to see one big price tag at the start-crazy I know!
