I posted this in another site, and i'd like your opinion on it too...

I need your honest opinions and comments on this PLEASE.

Ok, so what do u think of the name "Cake Fairy"...i think it's catchy, I know ppl remember it, but at the same time, i'm thinking, is that the right name for ppl to be taking me seriously??

I want something that's maybe cute and whatever, but I want to be taken seriously!!

I'm thinking of re-vamping my everything...get a new look

Any suggestions on a name, or of what I can do?? Or if u think I need to do this??

Thanks,

Carm

If it's something you really like, go for it. Once you are established, it won't matter how old you are, you will always be the cake fairy. And in the future, if you start doing other items, they'll just come to you because they know you do good work.

Your identifying picture should be a fairy with a magic "spoon" in one hand and a cake in the other!! icon_biggrin.gif

Did you know that www.cakefairy.com is taken? I thought I would point it out just in case you plan to have a website. My business name is Simply Weddings, but of course that was taken, so I went with www.simplyweddingsonline.com instead. Maybe you could do something like that.

I like cake fairy and the idea steph95 had with the magic spoon and cake, very cute. That would be really cute on a website...a cake fairy in the top left corner with her spoon directed towards the cakes and you could have it so that "luster dust" falls from her spoon each time someone clicks to see a new photo. Okay...I'm getting carried away icon_biggrin.gif

I would be careful using Tinkerbell on my business cards, etc. There's that copyright thing that can get you in big trouble. Just a gentle warning.

I'll just use ".ca" or something, i'm not worried about a website, i'm more concerned with it becoming inappropriate at some point...

I really like the name Cake Fairy. Makes me want her to visit me....now! icon_smile.gif It's very catchy, and a little magical. I just picture amazing cakes and sumptuous desserts. I say it's a keeper.

Also..just a quick note, as a previous poster stated, please be careful using trademarked images on your cards or associated with your name. You will be held liable. I think since you really like your name and are considering it for future business, now is a good time to consider an original logo to go with your great name!

Good luck.
Angie

Would it be illegal to have a pic of Tinkerbell on my site??

It's a website...i can put whatever I like on there...

But i guess i can adopt a "less famous" fairy...if I must....

Why don't you just create your own? You can come up with a name for it, and get it copyrighted. You can have a local artist try to come up with something for you, if you are having a hard time. Give her a name, also. As your items go out, you could put a sticker on them to mean that the cake fairy approved of the item. Maybe it could say something like "approved by so-n-so as a "fairy" good cake!" with her picture on it. I can see her with a chef's hat on, fairy wings, a slightly sinched chef's jacket to show that she's a girl, and barefoot, a face similar to tinkerbell, cake in one had, magic spoon in the other. Her name could derive from your name or that of a mythical fairy or creature. Ok. I think I'm drained of ideas for now...

IMHO, I think the name cake fairy implies fun, light-hearted cake designs. Based on the cakes you show on your website, I think the name is perfect! Personally, I love the name. If you were trying to sell serious, artisian types of cake as your primary signature style I think the name wouldn't be as good of a fit.

For web address you could use: TheCakeFairy.com

Try a local artist... Maybe ask an art student in a college near you. Or maybe at art class at a local high school. You could offer a free bday cake on their birthday for 5 years for the winner.

Cakefairy18, I have seen the copyright laws discussed on CC several times but for the life of me, I can't find the right forum to refer you to. I think the only way you can use Tinkerbell is to get permission from Disney and I would say that would be almost impossible. If I can find the link that my son sent me about it I will post it for you.

I think the idea of someone drawing you a new fairy would be the best. If you have a graphics design place that does T-shirts, etc., they could come up with something.

Do you not have a place that screens T-shirts and hats and such? That's where I got my logo for my cafe and again when I bought my bar. As someone else suggested, you might try the art department at any college or high school. Look in the phone book under graphic design and you might find something.

Finally found the site. Knew if I kept looking I would find it and it was right there in my favorites under cake decorating. Guess I'm blind. Hope this answers your question.
