I'm curious about trying this but have a couple of questions:

1) Is this only done on fondant?

2) Is it harder than the tutorial looks?

If you have any pics, I'd love to see it!

Thanks!

you could probebly do it on buttercream but it would be hard to do. Lot easier on fondant. Not hard to do just draw outline then lightly pull icing toward the center. I have a picture in my photos of a cake I did with it.

It's not that hard! I've done it on fondant and buttercream and I like both. There are so many great cakes out there - Ellepal has a gorgeous one, as does SweetArt! Good luck and have fun!

You can defiently do it with buttercream, I just waited until the bc crusted before I attempted the brush embroidery. It is very easy and gives a beautiful, artistic look to your cake. Here is a fall wedding cake that I did it on.

Brush embroidery is very pretty if done right! It can be done on well crusted buttercream. Make sure your brush isn't too wet when you "brush" your icing. It also helps having a second line of icing inside the design to be brushed so as to not distort the shape. Does that make sense?

Just practice and you will love it!

I did it on a dummy cake for a bridal show. It was my first experience doing it, and it was so easy. I used RI on Fondant, but that was because it was a demo cake. Here it is!
