... after only completing Course 1, a co-worker has asked me to make a cake for her daughter's engagment party. Found out today that sixty-five people are expected! icon_surprised.gif

Question: what size cake would I need to make in order to feed this many people?

I'm flattered that she asked but I haven't given her an answer yet as I'm a little nervous... that's alot of pressure for a newby. icon_biggrin.gif

Really....you'll be fine! You could do a 12x18 sheetcake which serves 54 wedding sized portions and do an 8" two layer or 12" two layer, which is like what you've done in class as the "couple's cake". There's no reason to think you must do elaborate decorations. Some of the prettiest cakes are the most simple. The sheet cake is utility....the layered cake can be prettied up. If you want to do a higher end decor on the layer cake, purchase a pretty gumpaste spray of ready-made flowers as your focal piece!

Rather than doing a sheet cake, you might consider doing an 11 x 15 double layer cake. I'm pretty sure that'd be plenty of cake. It'll be heavy, so make sure you put it on something that can support the weight. I'm sure you can handle this.
