icon_smile.gif by rolling out the gum paste and putting it over the cake or whatever it is you're covering. icon_smile.gif

I thought you were supposed to cover the styrofoam with royal icing before you cover it with gumpaste or fondant.

That's what the class teacher told us to do.

You have to put something on it for fondant or gumpaste to stick to it. Try gum glue, water or gel.

Thanks everybody! Cakemaker how do you make gum glue?
The gel I have has sugar in it and I read that it breaks the gumpaste down. The water didn't work that well.

Gum glue: 1/2 Teaspoon Tylose sprinkled over 3 Tablespoons water. Let sit several hours, stir. Ready to use! You can also thin down a little gumpaste with water until it is almost liquid and use that.

In one of my books (I believe it's Collette Peter's Cakes to Dream On) you should moisten the styrofoam with water before adhering the fondant to it.

You can also rub the styrofoam with vodka and it will adhere to it as well. That's what I use to cover my show cakes.

Thanks for all your help! I covered it last night . I think it is sticking but I'm not that happy with it . It has some little wrikles. I'm hoping when I airbrush it with a pattren it will hide it. I don't have time to start over or I would. Thanks again!!

Oh and thanks for the gum glue recipe Cakemaker!!

I wrapped mine in plastic wrap and also tried shrinkwrap. Both worked great. I didn't ice it or apply anything else.
