What's the best cookie to use with royal icing? I wanted to make some cookies this weekend and my heart (and tastebuds) are really set on shortbread cookies. The reason why I ask is because after thinking about it, I thought they might be too fragile. Thanks!
In my opinion this recipe works really well with royal icing. I would describe it as a cross between a sugar cookie and a short bread cookie. It isn't to sweet and doesn't get too hard but holds the shape you cut really well. It is the best I have tried so far.

Hope that helps!
I make an almond butter cookie that is really good. It is made with cream cheese butter and almond extract and holds up really well to decorating. It isn't too sweet wish makes it a great pair with royal icing. If you look in my gallery pics you can see what they look like. My heart cookie bouquets are made with this recipe and royal icing. The cookie is nice and firm but still slightly soft in the center. If you would like I can PM the recipe.
I hope you like that no fail sugar cookie recipe and it works well for you. If you want to try a great royal icing recipe that Antonia74 (Helen) suggests to go with the no fail sugar cookies, here is that link:
