Not the end of the world, but just starting out and got two wedding cake orders for June, I was soooo proud of bagging the orders and so confident that I could do them too.

The first was a topsy turvy cake and although a bit nervous of undertaking it, I knew I could handle it no problem this is the picture that was brought to me:-

Anyhoo turns out the brides brother is a chef and wanted to do her cake for her as his present, don't think she's too thrilled about it but she's cancelled the order.

Ah well you win some and you lose some!!! I still have one definite and two enquiries ongoing at the minute.

As you said "You win some and you lose some" You never know what will happen. Everything happens for a reason.

You know in this business (or in any business) you can't take things like this personally. I had a similar situation happen to me and it as the first order I had fall through (funny, her brother was a chef also) Like the saying goes you win some, you lose some and some get rained out....

I had a bride com in last week for a tasting & consultation. She asked me specifically to do her cake & we had everything worked out. Afterward, she said she was going to get a cashier's check for the full amount...blew my socks off...to reserve her date & all. Instead, she had her Mom call 2 hours later to say she was going to do it herself. Basically, she came in to get the sizes and know what she needed only. Yep, you win some, you lose some...hope she knows what she is getting in to. lol

icon_surprised.gif OMG bella I would have been super POd. Thats just mean. Ive got a consultation this Saturday and Ive spent quite a bit of money buying the ingredients to make the cupcakes and fillings for the tasting. The consultation is totally free and Id be beyond mad if they were just using me. Wow I cant believe someone would do that.

AWWW, like he should have told her before she went to someone else for a cake. Like that's just wrong!!

Think of it this way, her brother is a chef, and she came to u!! icon_smile.gificon_smile.gificon_smile.gificon_smile.gif

Good Luck in your future orders!

Try not to feel too bad about it. The only reason she cancelled is because her brother is a chef. You didn't loose to another decorator.

It's still experience in dealing with a bride and getting an order.

Since she thought you were talented, I'm sure she will pass your name along.

You could still make a dummy cake and add it to your portfolio!

You never know, she may be more unhappy than you are. I remember when I was getting married, a friend of my ex-husband's wanted to make my bouquet her "gift". I tried and tried to get out of it gracefully, because I knew what I wanted, and that was not what she wanted to make. She would not take "no, thank you" for an answer. So I got frankly a crappy bouquet, and carried thant dang thing down the aisle. But I did not like it.
