I have an idea... wondering if anyone has tried adding chocolate melts to the wilton canned icing. I love using the wilton canned icing for icing the cake, and need a light colored chocolate icing for a cake this weekend. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I like mixing my Wilton recipe buttercream with varying amounts of Dark Chocolate Fudge icing from the cake mix aisle in the grocery store. I forgot but I think it's Duncan Hines icing?? Anyway, I like the taste of the fudge icing and the consistency of my Wilton icing, so I mix the two. Less fudge for a tan color, more for a darker color.

How about Nestle pre-melted chocolate? It comes out a light brown and since it's unsweetened it doesn't make it any sweeter than it already is!

Have you tried making your own buttercream? It's not as difficult as you'd think and it's much more economical if you decorate often!

Those are all good ideas. I have made my own buttercream, but don't always have that much time with 2 young ones running around. Once I start to do more decorating I plan on making my own more frequently. Thanks again everyone for your ideas.
