For those of you who do gumpaste - what do you use for the calla lilly? I read in the "how to" article to use a heart shaped cutter. I saw a calla lilly cutter in Global Sugar Art. Does this make a more realistic flower? Any helpful hints. I made some last night, but they were way too thick. How do you handle the GP when it is so thin? When you tint the inside of the lilly, do you use a soft brush? Mine looked sort of smeary. Couldn't get it to blend very well.

Thanks.

To make my calla lillies I use a heart cookie cutter. Not the rounder kind of heart, but the more extended one. I wish I had a picture to show you. I will try to write a step by step for you.

1) Tint a small amount of GP yellow for the staemen. Roll a large pea sized chunk in to a sausage shape and push your wire into it. Use your fingers to exend the staemen to about 3/4 of the desired lilly length.
2) Roll white GP to about 1/16 of an inch thick. Make sure that you grease the rolling surface well and continually rotate the GP so it doesnt start to stick. Cut out heart shape.
3) On a piece of thin foam roll the heart to lengthen.
4) Use a stick tool to thin the edges of the heart. Keep the centre unrolled.
5) Brush a bit of your "glue" around the base of the stamen and on the bottom half of one edge of your heart shape.
6) Wrap the heart around the staemen, point side up, in a cone shape. Lightly blend seam together, with out loosing the over lapped look. Dry on flower former to preserve round shape.

I hope you can interpret my instructions. I will try to get pictures up as soon as I@can. Good luck

Thank you peachshortcake. Sofiasmami, the article I found is on this website under the articles tab. It is toward the end.

I tried the lillies last night again and rolled out as thin as I could. They look a lot better. Maybe a little too perfect tho. I will keep trying. I was thinking of buying the cutters from N. Lodge, but the cutters are only three something and the S&H is about 5. That aggravates me cause I know it doesn't weigh very much.

Anyway - thanks again.
