I am so excited to show everyone these! I have been dying to try to make flowers with gumpaste so my husband took me to the big hobby lobby sale and got me lots of cool supplies. Well, I got home and thought I would practice with fondant first before I used my gumpaste. What do you think? This is my first time ever making these things. I couldn't believe they turned out looking like flowers lol! icon_biggrin.gif

What I really want to try is making hydrangeas. BUT I have to order special cutters and veiners online. No store has them - I've been looking. And they are expensive!! I could not find petal dust either. All of those sparkle, petal, shimmer, lustre, etc. I guess I have to buy them all online.

Oh by the way, THANK YOU!

Hi. Those are great got your first attempt. My suggestion to you when you are using your gumpaste is to roll it as thin as you can. You will get more realistic looking flowers that way. Thats what my teacher Klara Johnson told me.

Great results, parismom! I'm sure you can get the luster dusts somewhere in Dallas, though. Surely somebody up there (Mamafrogcakes or someone else) can point you in the right direction. If you're ever in Houston, there are a few great shops there, and one of them might have the hydrangea cutters, they have tons and tons of molds and cutters.

Hey thanks for that advice! I definately see why I should go thinner. I was afraid to go too thin - but now that I got over my fear of doing it the first time, I can be more adventurous lol.

I'm sure there are places in Dallas, I just wish I knew where they were!

Anyone know?

I live just north of Dallas and I go to the Cake Carousel in Richardson.
The address is 1002 N. Central Expressway. Phone # 972-907-9042.
It's a great store and I take classes there as well.

Wow! Wonderful flowers!! I can't wait to see your next ones!

You can always come to Shreveport & go to Cake Creations! A little cake supply store that my friends own. It's right off of I-49. They have luster dust & just about anything a decorator needs! My favorite place to shop!

There is another cake supply store in the Hurst/Euless area: Elizabeth's Cake Supplies 112 South Ector Dr., Euless 76040 817-267-6691.

I haven't been there myself (I usually go to Cake Carousel) but my cake class teacher shops there and says it is a good placel!

I've also heard of one called Saleplace in Balch Springs, 972-557-7747.

HTH, just depends on where you live which might be best for you. Janice

Those are beautiful!!! How long did it take you to do them?

No one in my area teaches gumpaste so I'll have to self teach!!!

Wow, thanks so much everyone! And especially for the info about cake carousel! I am so excited to go!!!!

Here are some new ones... I added a few more and tried the stephanotis. It is really fun to make! My fondant was a little dry so I made the best of it. I'll try gumpaste later on when I get all the right dusts and cutters!!!

Really beautiful flowers. The roses are my favorite. How were you able to make them so full. My rows of petals seem to want to wilt and lay onto the row below them. Yours are soooo full and open. Again, beautiful job.

Wow really, I thought my roses looked kind of sad LOL!
I don't know, I just held them where I wanted them for a few seconds. Sometimes they'd slide, so I'd just press them back again until they stayed...

Well, I guess I'll just keep trying. I have the Wilton book for the how-to's of gumpaste flowers, but I haven't tried that yet. I did do roses from tootsie rolls for a cake last weekend and they seemed to hold up better for me than the fondant, but you can't use tootsie rolls on everything. I have heard that they now come in colors, but I haven't seen them yet.

Anyway, keep it up. Your work is wonderful and it is an inspiration for the rest of us.
